Hi econplusDal, why are does the demand curve slope if all firms have a horizontal demand curve. and doesnt the firm demand curve mean that if price rises demand will fall to zero?

that's the point, as firms in perfect competition markets have perfect information when an individual firm increases its price. Consumers will of course resort to substitutes, especially given that each firm in a perfectly competitive market produces homogenous goods. So it would be stupid for a perfectly competitive firm to increase its price higher than the entire market.
