An introduction to Insect Orders

Great video! I've been fascinated by insects all my life and i spend a lot of time observing, studying, and photographing them. I think they're some of the coolest groups of animals. So successful and diverse, yet underappreciated and even hated or viewed as bad or gross. It can also be viewed as childish to be interested in them, which is stupid because first of all age is irrelevant and they ARE interesting if your willing to learn why. I think part of the problem is also that most insects are fairly small and and are usually seen from too far of a distance to see in good detail. Because of that many people overlook them and don't think twice, but remember, they are animals and if you were the size of the Eiffel Tower, a deer or a lion might not look like much either. I think if people took a closer look, Learned a bit about them, opened their minds and were willing to look past the stigma and what they've been taught, they'd see how incredible, beautiful and interesting they can be. I think its best to try to see these things as they are and not what other people see them as, we have individual minds for a reason. Anyway my point is I appreciate you sharing this good accurate information, and its good to see other people care. also for anyone new to insects, learning and remembering everything might seem overwhelming, but the more you pay attention to the different kinds of insects it gets easier to recognize certain features over time and it becomes second nature. I highly recommend just going outside and seeing what you can find; look on plants, under rocks, logs and other objects on the ground, in leaf litter, in the air, and all around you. You'd be surprised how many different kinds you can find! the best locations to look are places with natural landscapes, and places with plenty of vegetation, as insects and plants are very closely tied. The farther from the city the better, although insects manage to thrive just about anywhere so parks and other suburban areas are good places as well. Just remember, plants are key! Especially in the city; they act like an oasis providing food and shelter and hunting grounds for predatory insects. So in a nutshell, remember there is wildlife all around you, so explore it, keep an open mind, and have fun. Also i hope anyone who reads this has a good day :)

I can strongly relate to you. I have always been extremely fascinated by insects and go out to find and study them. I am now starting to learn the science behind them, I just wish I had started sooner

Don't put a praying mantis in the freezer, I will become brittle and the legs will fall off... lesson learned. Excellent video, it will help greatly with my school project.

That's a shame, i hope you were still able to use it. Entomology class? And actually you can, but its just extremely fragile so its best not to if its not necessary. I've been working on a collection for a few years and sometimes its helpful to store specimens in the freezer if your not able to or don't want to mount them yet. You just need to be very careful and gentle when handling and moving the specimen until it thaws and its best to only touch frozen specimens with fine tweezers. I recommend storing frozen specimens in a container lined with tissue or something similar that's soft to cusion and protect it from damage. You can then put that container in a zip lock bag to keep the specimen from drying out and becoming brittle. I've brought frozen specimens stored like this home in a bumpy RV with virtually no damage so i trust the method lol.

The species is not the specific epithet. Species names combine the Genus (Homo) and specific epithet (sapien) for the full binomial name Homo sapien.

The name "true bug" makes no sense at all. It's only used in science, to every else bug is just any crawly thing around. And you don't need that kind of casual name, you already have the scientific order name. It's only purpose is to confuse.
