In this video I make a filterless ecosystem aquarium for my awesome collection of Endler Guppys. These are my favourite kind of aquariums and I really enjoy the challenge in creating them and getting them balanced. Plants are the key in this situation... and lots of them. Legit the only reason I was happy about moving house is that I can rescape every tank again, swap some bits of the pond that have been growing (either plants or fish) might even go do A collection of hard scape stuff 🤔

Perfect as always! I just moved to an apartment with no big tanks allowed. I had to give away all my other tanks and fish. I used to rescape them every 6 months. I’m glad I can still watch these builds and enjoy myself watching them come together.

Looks really good mate. When you do the Superglue and paper towels throw a bit of sand or the dust from broken rocks on it and it will look a lot better. I know you cover them with plants but you never know if it'll be visible through a gap or when you trim the plants.

I really appreciate that you go over the substrate every time. You and Matt really helped me set up my first planted tank earlier this year. Of course it's not nearly as perfect as yours, but I love it! (currently battling cyanobacteria, but I think I'm just going to have to buy some of that Ultralife stuff)

Make sure you have enough oxygen in tank and also do regular water changes. Cyano is usually a result of low oxygen levels and/or excess nutrients in the water column 😉

@@BigShrimpin416 I already killed the cyano with Ultralife. I'm sure it was caused by excess nutrients, as it was a newly planted tank and the plants hadn't fully established. Now I am wondering what to do about all the duckweed (hitchhiked in on a plant) and the pond snails. lol

Beautiful tank! I love the tank by itself, but the contrast of the neighbor tank is wonderful. Would you ever consider having a viewer vote for you next tank design? This one I would be over the moon if I could make at home! Brilliant! I have a request, though, if you maybe have the opportunity some day, to please show how the temperarure levels are in your tanks? I saw an turtle sanctuary use the infrared kind to check their animals in outside ponds when they had cold weather. They pointed directly at the turtles for one second and got the numbers. One could surely point at the water from above to get the temperature? It would be so interesting! Maybe there's a difference between eco-tanks and filtered ones, and so on. And I love gadgets, to be honest.

Great looking tank!! Your ecosystem tanks remind me a lot of Father Fish's method, only that he uses a bit more of a sand cap (at least 2" of sand). If your plants are coming out of established tanks I feel like they should have a lot of good beneficial bacterial on them already and you might not need to do daily 50% water changes.

I'm one of the newer users that was after an eco system. To me it was crucial to my first success with a smaller shrimp tank. 2 months down the line and plants look great and shrimps have multiplied with nothing more than light! Got some random snail passangers as well, but from what i've gathered they do a nice job with potential algae so why not

Great content! I see that your aqua soil clumps up. A cheap tool you can get is a soil sifter with swappable screens. Bonsai hobbist use it. This would help you break the clumps and have an even spread. I have been starting to combine my bonsai and aquarium hobbies and the tools have dual purpose. Give it a try

Love the videos, MD. I agree with you that beneficial bacteria needs fish waste to survive - so how does it stay "alive" in the bottle before it's added to the new setup?
