After doing this job last night on my 2017 M240i I’d like to call out a few things. 1.) Don’t pull the sound deadening foam out until AFTER you have fully loosened the strut brace and preferably remove the center cowling first. I don’t get why you’d remove the foam first if your going to loosen the strut brace and remove the center cowl anyway. You will tear your foam especially if you have an upgraded hpfp. There is also a post towards the back passenger side of the engine that’s hard to see. 2.) Torque spec for spark plugs are 23NM or 17ft/lbs. 3.) Torque spec for coil packs are 8NM if you wanna really get technical. 4.) My strut brace took an E18 for all 4 bolts. No big deal as I’ve heard these bolts may vary, but just be mindful to avoid stripping the bolt. I couldn’t easily find any torque specs for the strut brace so I just went with the 30NM mentioned in this video. Can anyone confirm? This was a great, in-depth video and made this job much less daunting. Thanks.

Strut brace is 56Nm.

Per TIS, the 14mm spark plugs are 30nm +/- 3nm.

@@Based_F22 56Nm and 90 degrees. Also renew the bolts.
@davidsmale4002 Жыл бұрын
@@acimdotnet is there anywhere that details this website etc as I keep seeing conflicting information? Also the whole repolace the bolts thing, is that true (I would suspect a garage wouldn't replace them) but if its a stretch bolt which I believe the plus 90 degrees means then I guess they do need to be replaced. Just seems a lot for a spark plug change.
@acimdotnet Жыл бұрын
@@davidsmale4002 Yes, I wrote above "renew the bolts". This information is from the official service manual. If you don't want to buy new bolts, I would tighten them just to 56Nm to avoid eventual break. I planned to get new bolts for the spark change in few thousands kilometers, but then I had to replace one VANOS actuator so I just replaced both actuators and put the old bolts back with 56Nm. But for the planned spark plugs change I will get the new bolts as well. I just didn't want to buy them twice.

Great appreciation for your excellent video about the spark plug change inside the B58B30 of the M240i! 👌 Really one of the best video overall in this community. Exemplary specific of even smallest details !!! 👍 There are exactly these small details which can make life very tricky for such kind of work, if you re doing it the first time ... and not knowing to help yourself or being not able to ask someone which has the dedicated knowledge. I m from Germany, and there was no clip in the whole German KZbin platform who was showing and telling in exactly this excellent detailed form. With your video I was pretty good informed how to do what in what ranking and once more important: Being suitable equipped with right specific tool kit like these not so common used E 20 and E8 Torx screws . 🙏Thank you so much for your great work.

The proper torque for the spark plug depends on thread pitch. M12x1.25 = 23NM M14x1.25 = 30NM I believe 23NM is the most common.
@anrokz2 жыл бұрын
my OEM replacement spark plugs from BMW say on the box to torque to 23NM, this is for the B58 engine on a 2017 440i. Wondering where the 30nm came from in this video??
@acimdotnet Жыл бұрын
That’s wrong torque (for 14x1.25 plugs), you are right, it should be 23Nm for B58.

I broke mine on the MAF like a year ago. It doesn't move. It bugged me for a while but you can't buy just that. You would have to get the entire connector. I even tried part outs and no one wanted to give it to me without the whole harness.

@@HamNo3guards over tightening will cause the threads to weaken and can strip them. It also causes the spark plug to sit off direction which isn't a whole lot of an issue but stripped threads would be an issue.

i didn't notice when you would put the sound deadening back in from this video, other than that thank you very much, getting my 440i in a couple days and gonna get this plug/coil refresh kit from your site as soon as i touch the car and can confirm it is actually reald and not a dream :D i still have the n54 plug remover thing from you guys actually and i'm hoping it is the same tool as this b58 one. i just hope to complete this with no cracked/broken/missing bits. can you leave any of the cowl off or sound deadening off or is it all functional on this car?

Those coil connectors just don't come off that easy for me, they won't release by squeezing, and I've broken 2 of them in 2 different ways. Not sure why these are so much more difficult than the others on the car which work fine.
