I've been researching living abroad. I found a site that listed six places in the world, one of which is Cuenca Equador. I started watching KZbin ers and found you and Julie's channel. I married a Mexican almost 44 years ago. One I mentioned it to my brother in law he didn't like the idea and told me to go Ajijic, Chapala. I wouldn't mind, but your coverage of Cuenca with cost living, Medical Insurance, transportation, legal protection and the cleanliness has sold me. I started writing things, something I've never before cared to do, I believe that I could write as she and I explore world cultures. Do you have anything on Mexico like you covered Cuenca? That is great information! Housing prep here for the sale in April or May, next month getting my husband's passport, then onto ensuring we are getting the correct information on what Miss Kitty needs to be allowed in by our Veterinarian, after the sale of the house, start the Application process for Insurance/Visa, then put the boat up for sale, book a temporary rental, book shipping, book a plane, etc. I think I am tired now, lol Saved this video for later.

Is IESS (Public Insuance) more for foriengers who are residence of Ecuador vs Ecuador Citizens? You stated $75 per month. That very high for Ecuadorian Citizens unless they charge more if you are a residence vs a citizen.

I believe this is only charged to foreigners, not Ecuadorians.

Ecuadorian citizens get IESS from a small percentage of their monthly income which is deducted from the employers and the employers pay too. It's similar to MEDICARE in US. But with big differences that they can use the IESS Insurance at any age(after 18 years old), they don't have to pay every month when they get 65 years old, no copay and when they retire pay nothing IESS Insurance. Also there are Ecuadorian people with self IESS Insurance but it's very low the payment.

So if you have a preexisting condition and purchase a $50,000 per incident policy, you have to wait 2 years before the insurance company will cover anything related to the pre-existing condition and they will only cover up to $8000 for that condition, PERIOD?

Hi. Will these Insurance plans cover pre-existing conditions? What I mean is I had breast cancer ( now I am in remission) and my husband is diabetic. So will these policies cover them from day-one?

Probably, I don’t think they pay claims in Ecuador.

I would ask Tricare since they have an overseas program. Might provide you with a coverage letter.

Tricare Prime is world wide insurance, same as GEHA (For retired civilian former employees) However they are not accepted in Ecuador...meaning. You have to pay your expenses out of pocket and download the forms online fill the claim and MAILED to the US...and wait to be reimbursed. For minor doctor visits is no problem, nut for long hospital stays and/or hospitalizations you might need a back up insurance...unless you want to gamble, and you have an emergency relief fund of several thousand dollars and hope you get fully reimbursed.

When we ask a professional in any situation, legal, real estate, medical, insurance etc we of course give them and their business exposure. We do believe in the professionals we interviewed. In the case of Carlos here we used his services, and he is in a unique position in the world. He is in a market with 10,000 expats and is probably involved with a large percentage of them. As we are traveling other countries we are not looking for a similar agent in a similar situation because they don’t exist. If you think you have better insight and knowledge please share. 🤷🏼‍♂️
