ECUADOR TRAVEL | One of the OLDEST cantons of Ecuador (Cultural Heritage)

Hello friends, in this video I will take you to know this beautiful city called Catacocha (Land of the Paltas), considered a cultural heritage of Ecuador located in the province of LOJA
The name of Catacocha is eminently indigenous. According to tradition, in the center of the city there was formerly a large lagoon.
It is said that a couple of indigenous people, when passing through these places, were surprised by the lagoon. The woman slipped and, believing that she was next to a god, pronounced tayta-cocha (father lake). With the arrival of the Spaniards, it was called Catacocha, and later Villa de San Pedro de Catacocha. (www.patrimonio...)
Paltas (Catacocha) is one of the oldest cantons in Ecuador, since it was founded in 1824. Today, it not only represents an invaluable patrimonial repository, without a doubt a place with great tourist potential.
In this video I am going to visit the central park of Catacocha, I take some shots of it with a drone, I went to try the gastronomy of Catacocha and I also went to see the SHIRICULAPO that is located within the urban perimeter of the city of Catacocha, it is a natural viewpoint formed by a rocky granite mountain whose western side wall descends vertically about 150m deep.
The definition of the meaning of its name brings two points of view to debate: the first, that the word Chiriculapo comes from two words Shiry = Chief and Culapo = balcony which means King's Balcony; and, the other being Shiriculapo, this due to the presence of mythical birds called "Shyros". In the 1990s, people were jumping into the void due to psychological and financial problems. Legends say that in this Hill many romantic souls did not resist the betrayal and in eternal flight they threw themselves into the void to seek eternity.
