Look at a physics simulation of the expansion of hot gases inside different designs of gun silencers! Here you will understand which designs are more effective at keeping those gases the longest inside, which of course translates in a better suppression of sound.

Love it... I have mine set up like number 3 & 4. This way it holds more gas and pressure and it stays near the barrel and the center/middle longer then near the exit. when it's on the other way around, it's going to keeps the gas pressure sounds less and it's a bit louder. again When you have it the other way around it's more louder than what I was saying. That why when you watch videos from KZbin and you can still hear how loud it is when shooting from round to round. That's why they have dry and wet from that style. But the number 3 & 4 on your clip, I set up like that as stated above you don't have to run it wet because being dry the way it is, it's already quieter and no need for wet but you can still have it wet but it's not going to make much differences.

Most silencer designs leave the chamber volume ahead of the first baffle the same as that between the remaining baffles, as shown here; since pressure is highest at muzzle exit, it would seem logical to make that first chamber largest, in order to cool the gas rapidly and reduce the pressure proceeding through the remaining baffles/chambers.

A chamber can just take as much gas as it can...so it wil spread eventually through all chambers without affecting the bullets path...larger chambers hold bullet back when its filled before bullet exit.. rather make the last chamber bigger to prevent the gasses to exit in a straigth line..My opinion...

You are correct here. I just did a video on this recently. The physics will show that the larger the blast chamber the greater the decrease in initial pressure from the muzzle and thus the lower the velocity of the gas. A lot of good rifle silencers for hunting do in fact have larger blast chambers either via a bigger diameter or a longer silencer, before the actual baffles. For hunting purposes this is ok that it can be big. Of course this is only one of many designs.

@@andrejochimsen6038 One thing which has to always be taken into account unless the designer is simply designing something without a lot of modelling etc; is to avoid any unnecessary turbulence affecting the bullets trajectory, so the projectile must always be ahead of any gases.

nice. is there some kind of value that you can come up with for the rate and temperature at which the exhaust gasses exit the muzzle of the suppressor for each design? It would be good to see a quantitative figure of which is most effective.
@KrissyNotty
@KrissyNotty 7 жыл бұрын
+JonDavid Hi! That's a brilliant idea... let's see: perhaps if you changed the composition of the initial reaction. The materials, I mean. That would change the temperature of the gases, and yes, you could tell the temperature by hovering the cursor over different areas. Also: using the "Heat Display Mode" would allow you to visualize the temperature of the entire simulation (a lot less accurate, but useful if you want to see the big picture --literally) :)

Adding a large blast chamber before the start of the baffle stack would greatly improve the performance of the suppressor. A large blast chamber allows for the rapid cooling of the gases which allows maximum performance of the baffle stack. The suppressors main purpose is to slow a bullet causing it to go from super sonic to sub sonic. You'll find Integrally suppressed firearms with the barrel inside the suppressor with ports just past the chamber to be more effective. Being Integrally suppressed allows more of the high pressure gas to cool and dissipate before ever reaching the baffle stack making the firearm much much more quieter. Cool video it's actually really kinda interesting to see the process in action.

Well that's a very detailed explanation! I would love to make an experiment to try that. Unfortunately I don't have the resources right now, but I have an idea on how to make it happen irl. I would just need to buy or lend the right equipment 😬

@@KrissyNotty I'm Retired Marine Corps Force Recon my mos was 0326 (Recon Man Parachute and Combatant Driver Qualified) i Retired as a Gysgt. I'm also a 100% Disabled OIF/OEF Veteran I served 2 deployments in Iraq and 3 in Afghanistan. The MP5SD was my first introduction to the wonderful world of suppressed firearms. When i first disassembled it I was surprised by how simple the suppressor design was. After that i decided to learn everything possible about suppressors how they worked how they were made. The ability to make a firearm that's by design loud quiet by adding a tube with multiple chambers made by adding angled washers or individual baffles fascinating. I actually have recently submitted the paperwork for a Class 2 SOT as well as submitted my ATF Form 7 i am starting my own Company to manufacture and sell Suppressors. I already have a building and all necessary equipment needed to begin Manufacturing suppressors soon approval of my Class 2 SOT and FFL Form 7. Let me know if you are interested in staying in touch.
