I'm 68 years old. I've been renting since I was 15. Got my mechanic's license when I was 22. I was a long time ago. I listened to a lot of these videos as a refresher and find them interesting. Many of them are just so well done, but I have to say I wish it would leave the darned music out of them. I think if you're serious about the content, it's completely unnecessary. Anyway, this is another very well done one I think. Appreciate them posting it

Thanks for the video! I subbed to your channel for the good info ! I spent all day today trying to diagnose a Bobcat tracked skid loader that is having electrical gremlins and it won’t power up the display panel. I traced the problem down to a faulty control/display module. Its always a little stressful calling bad modules when they cost $1500 dollars to replace! But based on everything I seen its gotta be the panel.

Agree best simplified by far and heading back to the garage to troubleshoot. I'm working on a project to customize 1996 with a 2017 canbus. I'll be removing some of the canbus devices, but not sure how to get around a device that won't be used anymore. Like the electronic parking brake. But still, I will keep using the manual ebrake. Do I need to loop high w/high etc or how would I terminate the end as in the device did not exist. I will edit it out of the programming as well. Thanks

Great video, thank you. One curios phenomena I have with both of my cars regarding the CAN bus on the ODBII connector, there is no voltage nor any resistance (open circuit) on pin 6 and 14. I tried measuring it with both an oscilloscope and ohm meter. What's going on here? 😀. My cars are Toyota Aygo and Volvo S60. Even when the engine is running there is no signal in the oscilloscope on those pins 🤔

I bought a used vehicle and long story short i noticed a u0401 code. Meaning invalid data from ECM. I also have a p0101, and a p0102 if i remember correctly. My father and i also noticed that there seemed to be electrical tape around some wires that are right behind the ECM connector plugs. I found the wiring diagram and found that it seems like a single terminal does not correlate with the correct terminal that the wiring diagram says it should be. When using the continuuity mode, we found that it goes to a terminal position that is supposed to be a selonoid valve of some sort. We think rodent damage to the wires, or some other unkown damage was done to the ECU cables and whoever tried repairing the cables mixed up a few cables, but not enough to completely ruin the ECU, considering thr car still runs absolutely fine without many issues. It doesnt run well at full throttle due to the MAF sensor codes and not recieiving the correct signal to thr ECU. Anyways i had a lightbulb moment after watching multiple videos of yours. I bet the u0401 is caused by the miswired repair that the kast person did. Its causing the maf sensor and IAT sensor to get incirrect readings, and causing the ECU to not recieve valid data and therefor throwing that u0401 code. Could you confirm my suspicions? Im still at work so im not able to work on it, but your input would be absolutely appreciated. Very informative videos!

Help! I went through the process and got to the Diagnose CAN Bus open circuit part and got stumped. I pulled the module with the faults, BCM, and measured the wires a got a reading of 120ish ohms. The video covers 0 and 60ohms, but not 120ohms. What is the fault for 120ohms? I did originally test the OBDII port and had a reading of 60ish ohms. My only thought is that it is not seeing an end resistor. What should I do next?

Just one point the Canbus can also still work in single line mode using either Can High or Low and Ground, OBD diagnostics usually shows this condition, it can work with short or open cirtuit. Everything can appear to work as normal, but noise can cause intermittent function.....Would like comment how this condition can be easily tested, as Can High and Can Low do not appear to have a ballanced termination resistor to ground

@PH-Truck-Mechanic7 ай бұрын

@Ecutestinglimited7 ай бұрын
Thank you! The fundamental principles and protocols of the CAN bus system are the same across different types of vehicles, including passenger cars, trucks, buses, and even some non-automotive applications. However, the implementation can vary significantly between automotive applications and trucks, and even among different manufacturers and models. Trucks, especially commercial heavy-duty ones, may have more complex CAN bus networks due to their advanced systems for cargo management, additional safety features, advanced telemetry for fleet management, and other specialised systems not typically found in passenger vehicles. We would always recommend consulting your specific vehicles wiring diagrams and vehicle schematics before conducting any tests and making any conclusions. Hope this helps!
