The RVD feud may have built a lot of Lynn's legacy (the old matches with Waltman in Minnesota are highly rated but were obscure in comparison), but simultaneously it helped cement RVD's. Yes, RVD already had star power, but if you look at his longer matches prior to the Lynn feud, a lot of the time they're kind of disjointed showcases of moves, the matches with Lynn really helped elevate him from a wrestler who just linked spots to a wrestler who put on great matches filled with spots.
@davidjsaul2 жыл бұрын
I wonder how much of that was RVD though and how much was Lynn laying those sequences out. I like RVD but he couldn't really replicate that with anyone else (e.g., Jericho or Guerrero or Benoit, all of whom were capable of it). RVD was always more of the showman whilst Lynn was the solid wrestler of the matches.

Zane, that promo Bubba cut on the fans was great. It got him nuclear heat with them and nearly started a riot. The fans are supposed to legit hate the heels and want them to die. In fact, that's what is missing with today's wrestling. Heels don't get real heat anymore.
@dyrr8364 ай бұрын
He didn't say it wasn't? But anybody trying to replicate it is just going to come off as bush league and uncreative, doing a worse version of something much more effective. Also requires the promotion to have an edgy vibe like ECW did, it wouldn't really make sense in like, current WWE or TNA or something. Maybe it could work in GCW or a similar promotion I guess. It was a fantastic promo at the right venue in the right promotion for the right era. A perfect storm that you can't just lazily replicate, like the CM Punk pipebomb that every indie wanted to shamelessly copy. Also speaking as someone who is pretty gay myself I'm not bothered by Bubba dropping the slur because that's just how we all talked back then. Maybe doesn't make it right but that's what it was, we all did it and 90% of people who claim they weren't are probably lying. Also "heels don't get real heat anymore" shows you are very unfamiliar with modern wrestling. Obviously you're not gonna see ECW riots at big overstaffed stadium events with security up the ass, anyone even thinking of jumping the rail gets grabbed immediately. Reigns was still getting "fuck you Roman" and "die Roman die" chants at the peak of the Bloodline storyline. Ditto for MJF during the Punk feud and Cardona in GCW. There's no template for what "real heat" looks like.
