Good Video. I too have a Rock Island 1911 Tactical model. I also have a Kimber 1911 as well. After shooting the RI for a while I found I wanted to upgrade it to make it similar to the Kimber in operation. Thus I also put the Ed Brown backstrap and magwell on mine. Once done, the one thing you did not mention is the grip safety was loose and that went away after the rubber back strap was replaced with a tightly fitting metal one. I also ground the back lip of my magwell in the gun to smoothly match up with the inner lip of the magwell. I added an extended mag release and VZ grips as well. Now it feels and operates so much better than when it was original. Now I will most likely keep it until it gets passed on to my Kids.

Darryl Wise I did not mention it because my grip safety was not loose. I also have a Wilson grip safety so that might be why we had a different experience. Glad it worked out for you and we both like it!

I love the video I'm having the exact same problem with the vertical serrations that when I'm holding it in my hand it feels great but when I'm gripping and shooting my hand does want to slide up and down which makes me feel like I have a quote unquote sweaty palm and it's sliding even if it's a millimeter it feels like it's sliding so this video is outstanding I appreciate your education and tutorial on upgrades because I'm absolutely going to have my gunsmith do that for me you nailed it because exactly what you're talking about the snakeskin pattern is and will be the most Optimum outstanding way to get the most grip when loading and or shooting because once again like I said when I am loading it's not a problem so much as it is when I'm shooting because it has an absolute upward slide which I'm not a fan of because it makes my grip when shooting non-confident and inaccurate especially while I'm shooting and recoil and kick back happens what happens as you know is that the gun with recoil and kickback making the muzzle rise so when you have the vertical serrations it slides up and down easily in your palm compared to having a cross pattern or snakeskin pattern it locks right in your hand for absolutely more control and proper positioning actually extremely secure positioning horizontal positioning when shooting is not the problem with anybody but with vertical serrations as you pointed out it is 100% vertical problems no matter how strong you grip the gun when you have that muzzle rise with Kickback and recoil those vertical serrations allow the back strap or the main spring housing slide up and down even a little bit is a 110% hinder in being a better Marksman so I appreciate your video thank you

I run the humped mainspring housing that's checkered and grip tape on the front strap. Of course I run VZ grips, great product and a great company!

~You do what I do and that is to keep the old parts organized in their respective bags, but then I put them all (by handgun) in a larger Baggie. ~I too like a bit of bite to the grip of my handguns.

Why does everyone who does a gun video go out of there way to show the viewers that the gun is clear? Lets assume it wasn't.... Is that putting the viewers life or wellbeing at risk? Or would viewers just not be able to concentrate on the content of the video because they were so worried about weather or not the gun was clear or not...
