One of the greatest song lyrics ever written. Ed and Ron Peterson wrote these words and they dig deep into the soul of any man who has been left behind with that exact line. The hurt is real and it will last forever. These guys got it right. It is too bad that Ed never received the accolades he so richly deserved. Great songwriter, singer and performer.

Those were the last words ever spoken by a young Tejana girl named Virginia I loved over 40 years ago. Since then I've been though two wives, and those words still burden my heart today 40 years later.
