I think that's an inspirational element of this series. Danny Antonucci confirms it why adults are rarely appears in some episodes is to simulate/imagine our childhood without our parents to our side to supervise us. I forgot the rest of the entire interview, but that's all I remember. Being alone with yourself, only to hang out with your friends outside to get rid of your problems.

Three things: Ed has an abusive mother & sister and his father never defended him from Sarah & his own Mother's Wrath. That's why he's so terrified and scared to his Mother getting punished for no reason. Edd doesn't have his parents in some situations that he needs them the most & sometimes they neglected him alone in the Cul-de-sac. That's a poor parenting they got there. And Eddy, have a bad brother who abuses him for amusement. He also teaches Eddy for making scams & schemes for earning money just for his own pleasure for jawbreakers. Also their mother & father is kinda aggressive too.
