Honestly I think that they made DD and Kevin have these random moments of bonding. Even in later episodes Kevin is not as much of a jerk to DD. When Ed hid Eddy's magazines he was actually just talking to DD. I assume DD "misplacing" the spare key in front of Kevin showed that they sometimes have common goals

Run for your ed was one of my favorite episodes. It was epic to see the Kankers full power unleashed, the other kids get bullied for once, and the Eds get away without a scratch. Sarah being tied up and quivering in fear was so satisfying.

“In Case of Ed” has quite possibly my favorite Ed line. “I am turning into a werewolf, Eddy!” As Eddy is MOONING Kevin? So clever. “Run for Your Ed” is terrifying but cathartic. Getting pushed around by the Kankers for so long, it’s nice to have the boys leave without a scratch while the rest of the isolating neighbors suffer a bit of Kanker-patented judgment day.

Ran over by a truck. Hit by a tree. Hit by a falling sandbox. Trampled by a bloat of hippopotami. Struck by a bolt of lighting.(Although for some reason he was burnt before getting struck.) His house collapses on him. Multiple things happen to him off-screen during the scene where Plank answers the phone.

I always thought since Eddy willingly took the phone he was inviting the curse in. And the only way to get rid of the curse is the do the ritual that Rolf was doing in the beginning or you have to pass the phone on to someone else. Kinda like the movie Drag Me To Hell

OH I actually have an answer for Rolf having salt on him. I study the occult a lot and it's common practice in occult practices to salt possessed or cursed objects. And sometimes salt yourself while trying to banish it from your life. So that time Rolf wasn't being completely random.
