I doubt the wings failing would have altered the outcome, Ed looked pretty out of control from the second he started rolling out for takeoff.

Hunter Jones Pilot error is still better than structural failure. That shouldent have been an issue in the first place.

Everyone always wants to put the flaps down on their maiden take off & landing. This take off is a good indicator why it’s a bad idea.
@hunterjones98224 жыл бұрын
@@whiskytango17 That model, if balanced properly, will take off and land just fine without flaps, A-10's fly like big trainers except if your name is Ed, all that yanking, banking, and cranking ... And I usually get up high the first time I'm going to deploy the flaps, slow down, and then watch for pitch changes to see if I have my elevator>flap mix set up correctly. Flaps aren't meant to be used at Mach 1.5

Wow... Such a poor design, but having entirely too much elevator throw wasn't helping the situation either... Glad to hear they supported their product.
@nodent6 жыл бұрын
Alpha10 I did not see that having too much elevator throw increase the situation there was no erratic porpoising. The wing gave way during straight flight.
@dennislinares25823 жыл бұрын
Actually I like to know the throw is there when I need it but use exponential to smoothen out the amount of throw at high speed!

Can you tell exactly where the main spar failed or any pics of the damage. My friend has one and will not fly it until he has some info on he failure to try and remedy the situation.
@nodent6 жыл бұрын
I don't see the pilot often but I will ask. When we picked up the rubble it was obliterated by the failure and smashing through the trees. So I doubt there would be evidence.
@ricardofuentes64096 жыл бұрын
Greetings. Tell your friend not to fly it until he has re enforced the crap construction and cheap fiberglass used. I passed through the same ordeal as Ed. Im waiting for a full refund. Wing loading doe not hold the force exerted by the planes speed. Wood is too thin and not enough strength.

Sorry about the model, sucks when that happens especially when its a design issue. Do you remember what KV motors were used for the Jet Fan 120s? Thx in advance
@nodent7 жыл бұрын
The motors were the 1917/ 1y model with the 8mm shaft, 590 Kv on 12s batteries.

And you never takeoff away from you like that. Are you going to land and fly at yourself and stand in the middle of the runway?? Thats not how you fly. You stand near the runway and takeoff from either right or left and rotate just about past you. I love these people who dot fly properly.
@nodent5 жыл бұрын
Um taking off while looking down the runway helped insure the plane stayed lined up on this very short narrow runway. We walked away toward the flight stations after takeoff. It amazes me how negative people can be and not feel bad for the person that put so much time in the build. The manufacturer even agreed and compensated him for the structural failure.

@@nodent everybody is a flight instructor! I don't know if this was a maiden, but I teach my students to maiden their birds in whatever safe way gives them the most confidence. I agree with some of the comments that some people here are looking for perfection... I thought you smoothed it out and were flying it fine when she failed. Good luck with whatever you're working on now.

@whiskytango174 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t matter where you stand. If that’s your takeaway from this video, you may need to re-evaluate. Or just keep telling people how to ‘fly properly’.
@Heli42134 жыл бұрын
@@whiskytango17 It does matter first of all where you stand its not how you fly properly. Do you go to an RC event like Florida Jets and every pilot walks out and stands behind there plane for take off? Common sense as it flies away its harder to see number one and harder to judge speed. This is usually done when people have a hard time knowing there controls well and lazy. I have flown for 43 years and flew competition for 12 years I know how to fly and log 400 to 700 flights per year and I don't stand behind my plane. And no it was not the only thing I took away from the video but people see this and new flyers may copy this and its not correct!!!! Setting an example for all flyers is a good Idea. The plane was cool for sure though.

First trainer I ever had did the same thing, poorly designed main spar. They offered me a revised modol at cost, but they would not replace the nitro motor and radio gear that was trashed from their poor design. My point being, these manufacturers need to test and design these aircraft more, this is peoples hard money and time..

Yeah. Their helicopters look pretty but you better go through them before you fly them. Take the mechanics apart and double check everything. Also add good quality bearings.
