Not true. Stefan’s love for Elena was unconditional, he placed her above and beyond. Elena didn’t love him as much. Think about her’s and Damon’s betrayal, when Damon got a werewolf bite and he needed Klaus’ blood to heal him. Stefan was willing to sacrifice everything in his life and his humanity, let go of everything he had and serve Klaus just so Klaus would save Damon with his blood. How does Damon thank Stefan? By kissing Elena and taking advantage of Ripper Stefan to get closer to Elena so he would look like the good brother. Stefan was evil because he was compelled to be, he went through hell and back to save Damon’s life. Elena says she didn’t give up on Stefan, but if that were true, she wouldn’t have let Damon get close enough to kiss her. Stefan said she gave up on him the moment he left town, and that was true. So they both thank Stefan’s sacrifice by Elena falling in love with Damon and Damon kissing her in his absence, and that betrayal is what ultimately destroyed Stefan. Not what Klaus did. And Damon has the audacity to say that kiss wouldn’t have happened had Stefan not been such a prick, but he forgets Stefan was FORCED to be evil just to save Damon’s life. So no, Elena didn’t love Stefan as much as he loved her.
