Tim Burton's best film bar none. Probably because it was deeply personal to him and Ed and Bela's relationship reminded him of his own friendship with Vincent Price in his declining years. Beautiful, funny, heartwarming. Great film.

@@kevinhiscock3297 The most famous one perhaps. Fame unfortunately doesn't equal acting talent or appeal for posterity - especially since those chumps who are swayed by fame are an awfully fickle lot who go for the "safely familiar and currently fashionable." Listen, while Lee made 10 appearances as Dracula only 2 of those were good movies, the rest were just run-of-the-mill late night tv filler even Lee himself never spoke about. Lugosi's role as Dracula is widely considered one of the very finest.

Fancy cutting this off at the end, the public adoring him is such a great end. His entire performance in this was Oscar winning, he was amazing, my own favorite {apart from this} is where he is told the octopus doesn't move on it's own and like a trooper he just gets on with wrestling it in the cold water. Lugosi would have loved this, he was an extraordinary actor in his own right. Funny that after all these years he is acknowledged at last
@paulallen81093 жыл бұрын
I like that Lugosi really went into the role even a poorly written one for a cheap Z-grade movie made by Ed Wood. All true professional actors are like that. They always give their whole even in the worst movies. Landau's portrayal of him is one for the ages too.

Mr Wood had a serious drinking problem too. I think there is a certain irony in the fact that the film about him and his life was far more interesting than anything he ever made. We tend to glorify our heroes and feel contempt for those who aren't. But this was done with a lot of love for the people and I think that's why it worked..Thank you for saying anything at all..

This is a copy and paste of Bride of the Monster's IMDb Trivia. According to Paul Marco, Edward D. Wood Jr. thought that Bela Lugosi's memory might not be very good, so for Lugosi's long speech, Wood had the prop man make cue cards. Lugosi, upset, insisted he didn't need cue cards and he would "memorize it." Wood still insisted on the cue cards, telling Lugosi, "We have to be safe". Lugosi went to Marco for help. He had Marco promise not to show him the cue cards during the scene. Marco held the cards at his side the whole time and Lugosi never looked over once. After Lugosi's performance the whole crew got up and applauded.

@GregERobertson That he did, when Ed found Bela he was a failed broken man addicted to morphine and other drugs, Bela at that time was a shell of the man he'd been at his peak, typecast, alone and forgotten reduced to low budget name only roles and Dracula revivals. Though Ed's movies are the worst ever made, he managed to get Bela back on the screen, to proove to the world he still had it, he died a happy man, with a script in hand, an artist to the end

Landau is a sufficiently well known actor that you can recognise traces of his actual voice underneath his 'Bela' performance. Likewise his face. Landau made that not matter, because the performance is not an impersonation of Lugosi, but Bela's essential spirit in a movie that is as much a comedy as an affectionate re-telling of Ed Wood's career.
