I'm loving your EDC, its given me lots of ideas what to put in my purse. I use Buffs and they are brilliant (I have Alopecia Univarlis so no hair) and they stay on the head like glue - no blowing off in high winds or the like. I must research to see what candy I can get in tins over here in the UK. Oh one thing, remember never to wear your building pass outside in the street, as some unscruplous people take photos of them, make copies and then can get into the place unchallenged.

One little tip i got from somewhere else (sorry if you read this couldn't remember) was to keep my car keys on a small Karabiner clip so i can un-clip them from my main key bunch so i don't have the weight hanging on my ignition barrel.

I'm impressed and fascinated by your pragmatic and rational EDC purse. Many females fill up their handbags with unnecessary items but your thoughtful contents I cannot fault. I'm sending the link to this video to my sister and female friends. They can learn a lot from you.

Loved this! As a fellow woman from Canada, it was great to see the stuff you carry. I recognized the windproof Dollarama lighter. Love those small OB's, I can't even imagine carrying bulky Tampax or others anymore. I chucked when I recognized the gasx right away haha, I'm getting old. So true about "purse changes often". I get so disorganized after a while from switching to the smaller purse and back. Always liked the bigger purses that fit a water bottle/movie theatre snacks.

It's useful to put the torch on your key chain on a slightly longer attachment... that way you can easily use the torch to light the key hole while you put the key in. I use a shoe string with a bowline knot in it. It's colourful so I can easily find it easily. I can't tell you how often I am glad of being able to see what I am doing.

Thank you! Most things I carry are because at one point or another I've needed them. I remember once I had a piece of meat stuck between my teeth and it was very painful. Regular thread (from my sewing kit) just wouldn't do the trick. Ever since then, I've always carried floss.
@deanfrost94944 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. If your starter/ignition goes out on your vehicle you might consider lightening your key chain. I toasted one because of a heavy key chain.
@CampSmarts12 жыл бұрын
That's a great tip! Thanks! In the case of the Streamlight Nano, it's on a clip and not on a key ring, so I can remove it very easily, use it and then put it back. However, most people carrying a torch on their keychain will probably have it on a key ring, so that is a great way of changing it.

Yeah, we had two shootings recently (google Scarborough shooting and Eaton Centre Shooting) that rattled the public. Not to knock your purse, but you could get something more ergonomic that will still allow you the same volume, with less pain. With the rise of so many new tactical slings I think it's worth looking into.

I think you're totally right! A different shape would probably help me a lot. My only problem is that this is the purse that I take to the office, and it's kind of too dressed down already as it is. Someone needs to take these factors into consideration when designing purses. The same thing happens with ladies shoes. It's sooooo hard to get a pair of sensible, comfortable shoes that still look nice. That's why I hate buying shoes or purses! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Actually, I try to change it all the time. I always carry my purse on my right side, but sometimes I wear it cross body so the weight is on my left shoulder, and sometimes I shorten the strap and wear it on my right shoulder.
@Forgoten21412 жыл бұрын
Yea, Canada is different definitely. Which is odd because I'd think Canada would be much more open about guns considering their vast rural geometry and generally friendly citizen body. I know you can purchase pistols and rifles but I'm not sure about carrying them.

I carry a purse (yay, leftover habits from university - because nothing's worse than digging into your knapsack for a bus pass or money), and mostly what lives in it is...video game system (3DS), case with the video game cartridges, a pen, dog pepper spray (yes, Canada, love you, but seriously, pepper spray not being allowed?), hand lotion, a first aid kit (btw, where in Canada can you buy actual altoids? I've looked at most grocery stores/supermarket chains, and they don't have 'em.) and a small coin purse that holds tokens. Sometimes I have hand sanitizer and my headphones in there (but the earpieces like to come off and I get so annoyed at 'em). My keys are on a separate lanyard with the same nanolight and a swiss army sd classic. (Scissors, nail file + flat head screwdriver, and a couple of other things). My wallet/card wallet lives in my pocket as well. This may change as most office casual clothing for women doesn't have pockets!

@CampSmarts ha! i did the same! well, with my backpack (being a guy means, y'know, backpack instead of purse), especially since my work commute was, at the time, around 5-6 hours per day on the bus/train. i ended up with a lot of reactions like i'm sure you get with your purse about how heavy it is. then the same people always look at me *first* when they need something. :-D

Thank you! I've grown a little obsessed with tins, especially altoids. I actually ordered some altoids smalls from ebay because they don't sell them in Canada. I'm sure you can find something equivalent in the UK. I recently found some in Stratford (Ontario) called "Shakespeare mints". LOL! You might be able to find things like that in souvenir stores. I never wear my work ID at all. Security already knows me so I rarely have to show it :)

I ruined more purses in my life carrying keys in it. Only a Guicci lining might hold up to keys, I think. Now I dangle my keys on a big pink carabiner outside of my purse, but I may need to re-think, that, too, because one of the comments below suggested that keys be kept on your person in case of a purse snatching. The other thing about keys is to be able to take the car key off seperately so that the weight doesn't ruin the starter or ignition. It can be costly to replace if it's damaged by the weight of a big keychain with all kinds of extras on it. I try to carry only what I need for the moment, so no make-up, but tissues, comb, keys, hand sanitiser and breath care products for sure.
@astrangeone9 жыл бұрын
I have my keys on a lanyard in my pocket. That said, I hate the female clothing industry for deciding that "women don't need pockets" on clothing. Seriously, every time I have to do something that requires business or formal clothing, it's like...here, you don't deserve a darn pocket. Yeah, car keys are delicate. I won't trust a giant keychain like she shows on the video not to destroy or mangle things in the process.

Nice set up! Keep the snood! I always advocate people carry at the very least a bandana or hankerchief. Ever in a fire or disaster with smoke or dust and debris it will save your respiratory system from major health problems down the line. More people die in and after those situations from inhilation of smoke than from anything else. I feel a bit better about the weight of my EDC system now! lol! All the best!
@CampSmarts12 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it! As for safety and what I have, hopefully just some common sense, lol! Living in Canada means that you're not allowed to carry guns and knives have some restrictions. It is pretty safe though, and I've never felt the need to have anything to protect myself. I try to avoid potentially dangerous areas and situations and hopefully am successful at that.
@CampSmarts12 жыл бұрын
Good point, Paul! I had taken it out of my purse but I think I'll put it back or at least a bandana. Haha! Everytime I see others' EDC videos I feel like Crocodile Dundee: "That's not an EDC! This is an EDC!" lol! I know that bigger doesn't mean better so I'll need to streamline things a bit. I need to be as ruthless with my EDC as I am being with my backpack for trips.
@CampSmarts13 жыл бұрын
@DisillusionedAcronym Thank you! That's true. Whenever I need something that I don't have on me but could have had, I try to make a mental note of getting it and placing it in my purse. Sometimes it's not even something I have needed for myself but perhaps for a friend or colleague.
@jediknightofthewoods12 жыл бұрын
I know exactly what you mean, its very tempting to keep adding stuff just because. Thing is not to beat yourself up about it, Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it! People laugh at me when I take my two bags to work, but im the first person they come to for a band aid, or a USB memory stick, or a pair of scissors or duct tape etc etc etc! lol! So many people forget the bandana, remember the rule of 3's? 3 minutes without oxygen and all that. All the best! MTFBWY!

We have similar regulation probably becos it's influenced by British common law. One thing that bugs me with carrying everything in ur purse/handbag is the case of snatch thieves. Here in my country it becomes common to hear ladies become victims. So I put my important stuff eg: id card, driving license, etc in book cardholder in my front pocket and clip my car n house keys the side of my jeans belt loop. I'd rather lose my the money in my bag then my life. Juz wanna share my edc systm with u.

You don't strike me as the type to be totally opposed to carrying, if so, go with a mace type product. There are plenty of reviews out there to find the best product. If you decide to arm yourself consider at least a 9mm, stay away from Kel-Tec PF9, too much controversy. Check the reviews, Love it/hate it. If you want something smaller I would recommend the Beretta 32 Tomcat. I have the gun and it's got great reviews. For 9mm check out the Ruger LC9, Beretta PX4, or Sig Sauer P229.

Thanks Ken! Altoids have become an obsession for me and, I must confess, I don't even really care for the mints. I'll eat them, because I don't like to be wasteful, but if it weren't for the tin I would certainly be buying something else. Check out all the different things you can make with Altoids tins, and you might find that you need all the tins you can get ;-) I've posted some of the ideas I've found on my Facebook page. You should check it out. I think I posted something last month.

In Canada, only those who require a gun because of their occupations and those who need one for the "protection of life" can get an authorization to carry. The latter is more complicated than it sounds. Let's just say that it's not easy to get a carrying permit.

Sounds like a sensible thing to do, but I've never carried keys in my pockets, especially when there are so many. Not too many women will. Form fitting clothing with bulges of keys in the pockets doesn't look very nice. I don't have a car, so I don't usually carry car keys. Also, I live in a condo with security, so they can always let me in as they know me.

Thanks for watching and for the comment! After years of trying to go smaller with my purse, I'm starting to think that bigger is better. You don't have to fill it up, but when you need to add something (like a water bottle or movie theatre snacks) there is still plenty of room in it.
