I used to be a telecom electrical worker and used electrician scissors every day and know that there's not much in the sense of everyday things that they can't cut. Now as an actual electrician, I still carry around my old beat up pair of Klien 2600-1 scissors everyday, even outside of work. They come in handy all the time and still cut just as good as the day I opened them. Great video, 👍 very insightful 👏

While the description says "tool only" it does come with one each of a bi-metal kzbin.infoUgkx0vyBwjtx9GGOuiqUVT2sRoYqmDoNT_RI and HCS blade plus an adaptor plate for non-DeWalt blades. Wish I had known that before I bought the blade kit, but oh well. Since I already have a DeWalt drill, charger and batteries there was no need to buy more of those so this was a great deal. There is one other consideration. DeWalt does't sell the depth guide separately so you need to buy the three parts which make it up -- the N275350 block assy, the N275341 metal rod and the N278801 knob. Amazon does sell all three.

The Fiskars were the most surprising to me, I carry the Klein so I knew they would do great. I think putting leatherman scissors through the same gauntlet will really show their limitations. Hope the micra is in that test as they’re the only scissors I like from leatherman. Thanks again for the hard work! (Leave me out of the shears giveaway)

I sharpen knives and tools for living since the 90's. Fiskars are some of the best comercial grace scissors in Europe. There are eve better though! Japanese and some old traditional companies mainly from Europe, still make some really high quality high performance scissors. That being said, like most tools and machines nowdays, the overall quality, is not what it used to be. Usually, the older the better, with some excpetions here and there of course!

@@matthiaskathriner5494 Nope, Victorinox doesn't make any scissors. They buy them from a German factory, and they just put their logo on. The only scissors Vicotrinox makes, are the tiny scissors on their multitools and pocket knives. You're right about the handdrill. We aren't going to have power in any form on the coming years and that's because it's part of a plan and not just my opinion/theory. I've also got handtools, like axes, saws handriills etc, for the difficult winters we have ahead of us!! Stay safe Matthias.Take care!!

30 years in telecom, carried Kleins for most of it. That design is very old and has changed little for a reason. There's different handles now you can get but the fundamentals of the snip are the same. It works. The knipex cut great, maybe I'm just too set in my ways but I couldn't adjust to the ergonomics.

I was looking for scissors before I saw this video and ended up with the Fiskars, they're great. My wife got them on my radar as they're trusted in the sewing community. Also tried a smaller non-folding pair of Fiskars, which were just as good, and a pair of small Westcott titanium scissors, which were garbage.

I always have my Victorinox Swiss Card in my wallet and I love the scissors within the card. My sister gave me my Swiss card when I was just a teenager and now I'm in my late thirties. It is still going strong, both the scissors and blade. I actually put my middle finger slightly into the holes in the scissors of the Swiss card it gives me much more control of the scissors.

I'm don't see the SOG snippet, which are extremely capable, even more so for its size, more capable than any victorinox and weigh less than 60gr, bought them as soon as I knew about them after watching some comparison videos and they don't dissapoint, they don't have the best build quality but they work flawlessly. I wanted something comfortable and light enough to add to my EDC since I'm considering getting the Gerber dual force and they don't have scissors which I don't mind now...

yes scissors are quite komplex... play between the blades, stiffness of the blade, angle od the edge... sharper angle can help to improove that the blades do not pull apart.. so expensive scissord dont have a flat grind all the way.. they have depending on the position in the blade a different edge angle.. also a corser grind can help to grip the material better so yo do not push it out... so for kevlar and dyneema (at Gruschwitz) we used toothed scissors..

I've worked in telecom since 2001 and always keep a pair of the Klein Electrician Scissors on me. I've seen guys use them to cut a nickel in half! The key is in the hand grip. DON'T put your thumb through the top scissor hole but let it instead rest in your palm. If you get a pair that has a larger hole on one side, either put that side on the bottom and put at least two fingers in there, then let the smaller side rest in your palm with no finger in it, or flip the scissors over and put one finger in the small hole and use the larger size to have more surface area resting on your palm. You can cut through anything like that.

I highly recommend if youre looking for small form factor scissors.

Scissors really can be a mystery. In addition to performance across tests being unpredictable, I wonder what's up with the Xcelite shears. The fact that they did 1 or 2 cuts well and then completely failed against certain materials is confusing. I wonder if the handle style makes it less natural to push the blades towards each other as you're cutting, so if your grip is just perfect they perform well but if not they barely cut at all. It might be interesting to experiment with them to see if you can get them to work reliably, maybe by trying to put pressure on the grips differently or by tightening the pivot screw or something. I wonder if other straight handled shears would have the same issues. I'm really impressed with the Klein and Fiskars scissors. I don't know if I'll ever bother getting the Kleins, but I'll probably pick up a pair of the Fiskars ASAP. As far as other scissors to test I think you should try something from Kai. They are often regarded as some of the best fabric scissors, and I'm curious how they compare in more general purpose tests. Ideally you would probably want to go for the 5 1/2 (Kai 5135-wc) or 6 1/2 inch (Kai 5165-wc) scissors with blade caps. Kai is also the parent company of Kershaw and ZT; I hope one day Kershaw gets serious about making multitools again they use that scissor expertise to make something that could compete with Victorinox.

I would like to see the OLFA 5" scissors. I haven't seen hardly anything on YT about OLFA scissors so I was thinking about checking them out myself. I think OLFA makes good stuff. Also the Style CS, I really like them and I carry one everyday but yea the scissors kinda stink. They aren't terrible but I was disappointed when I first got it. They never cut that great until I lightly smacked the pivot point with a hammer and a machine screw (in lieu of a punch) and after that they cut better than they ever did. I think it tightened up the pivot and took out the slop in between the blades. I had to do that twice because they loosened up when I tried to open a blister pack and put in more force than I think I should've

As someone who owns slip n snips and knock offs both pairs of my knock offs preform way better than my slip n snips despite abusing my knock offs far more often. Personally I feel for an EDC to pair with a knife they are the right call for me, being so rounded they store better than most the other options here in my pocket. And this way I can have a knife with a lock. I really hate using a knife without a lock it always scares me since I often find myself needing to press on the spine of a blade to cut things. Personally I do not find myself needing any thing on most multi tools at all often enough to justify carrying a multi tool. I do a lot of small quick cutting tasks so being able to keep them in my pocket is quite handy compared to the alternative. But yeah honestly the slip n snip I find work best on basically paper and fabric, but as soon as I have something like rope or a tougher cut I go to my knock offs. If I were guess they would probably score about a 11-13 on these tests. But the easy grip, and the comfort of them, along with not needing to maneuver an entire multi tool around to cut, means I find it easier to make curved cuts when I want and basically this is my pitch to people who see this and think they'd like the slip n snip form factor, to go look for a knock off brand, they are often around $5 at the time of this comment, and they cut better in my experience. I love mine. One thing I've done is a small bit of string and a bent paper clip means I can hang mine on the edge of my pocket, for even easier access then digging in my pocket. Just a friendly reminder that it's your tool, feel free to modify it to work better for you.

I find scissors usually cut better by applying opposite pressure at the handles. Its awkward though and with the better ones you dont need to.

Very nice video! The Engineer PH-55 could be interesting for another comparison. Compact, small sheath, very good ergonomics similar to Knipex electrical shears, very good cutting in my experience.

Best scissors in existence imo are the cutco brand. Check em out, lifetime warranty dishwasher safe and will cut thru a quarter then still cut anything(paper, rope, leather, etc) Must check em out they are absolutely amazing.

I’d love to see your Dr Slick forceps scissors. They are not scissors to the tip so I don’t expect them to pass the fine cut test, but I wish to see their performance as scissors.

Thorough work! The rather heavy duty scissors like the Klein or Knipex which are originally designed for cable could of course also be tested in their original domain (where a Victorinox, so much I appreciate those, better not should be used).

Dom, would you test X-shears? They are what they give us to paramedics in Italy. I’m curious how’d held the gauntlet. It’s fairly inexpensive (around 40€), but they do cut everything I tried from boots to leather jackets

Check out Klein's video on the construction of these electrician's scissors. They show you why typical scissors can't compare to these inexpensive, unassuming looking shears. They are used by professionals who swear by them and are designed to keep an edge for a long time, even though they are intended to be used to cut wiring.

I was not at all surprised about the klines. I used to keep a pair in a rediculus belt pouch that I lost years ago. every time any other scissor struggled in one of your test, I was like, "the klines are gonna kill that". I should probably stop punishing myself and pick up another set next time I'm at home depot. I actulay love them. Also, for such a "long" video, it blew by.

I've been using the Klein for years now, there's also an attachment that goes on the finger loop which makes it more comfortable to hold, or palm when cutting. I kept waiting to see "Mom's fabric drawer scissors".... you know, the kind that is tucked away only to be used to make curtains or hem a pants, but ultimately gets used for everything else, and then everyone gets punished for using them because noone wants to admit it....ahhh....memories... ,anyway... I'd like to see those reviewed, just your standard Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby brand fabric scissors.

Honestly, I’d like to see you cover any of the clauss brand scissors. I can’t really tell you which model, because they vary in price from 20-80$, so you’d have to decide what you would want to spend. I’m really curious about this brand though.

I don't know any good scissors that haven't already been mentioned, i'm also a little late but you should add the penny test, shear type scissors should be able to cut a penny in half. The leatherman raptors can do it and those Xcelite shears should do it easily

I carry a Compact in my pocket and Singer C-705 round tip sewing scissors in my bag but this has made me consider getting the small Fiskars ones and the Klein electrician scissors. You should test the Swisstool Spirit scissors, I'm forever disappointed it doesn't use the standard Victorinox scissors and would prefer to have literally any other tool in their place (too bad they discontinued the S variant). I wonder if there's any redeeming qualities to those scissors, I'd love to learn that I'm wrong about them and that they are actually somehow quite neat (or have my hatred of them validated).
