Eddi is the only artist that when I went to one of her concerts, she asked the audience for requests and sung every song requested. Great voice, talent and person.

My Mum came from Scotland and arrived in Australia at the age of 4. She died last year 96 years old. This song was played at her funeral. She may have held an Australian passport but she died a Scot.

Thanks for sharing the feelings. I am an Indian living in Indonesia. Indian folk songs too very interesting. But my children are not good at Indian languages. So they have to learn and excel in English. May my children learn to from scot songs . Nowadays they love to play *ae fond kiss*

There's nothing more moving than listening to a Scottish folk song being sung by a singer with a pure natural Scottish accent/voice. Eddi does so much justice to this ballad. Eddi's guitar skills are really great as well. As for 'specs' which commenter, down below remarked on; well, I guess, Eddi needed them to play guitar. I'm definitely going to purchase her Robbie Burns CD. I was so bowled over with her modern rendition of Auld Lange Synge that she sung some years ago at Scottish parliament.

Though being German and probably the lousiest guitarist one can imagine, I just ordered a „Robbie Burns“ songbook some 3 days ago! Can’t wait for it to arrive and get myself acquainted with „Robbie‘s“ compositions and poetry 🤗😍🥰😘! Thank you so very much for your wonderful artistry and your sweet voice, Eddie 🤩🥳😍!

What is or who is he " Robbie Burns" ?
@ingonowack3839 Жыл бұрын
@@herbertmarques4424 Well 🤔🙄! Being a non native speaker and only having scratched the surface of the „Scots“ dialect, I misheard the proper pronunciation of Robert Burns‘s nickname used by the Scots! It is indeed „Rabbie Burns“, not Robbie 😘!
@herbertmarques4424 Жыл бұрын
@@ingonowack3839 I understood. It's a nickname. He is the author of the poem. This song is originally a poem.

I’ve always loved Robert Burns’ poems, and this piece is my absolute favourite. I’ve recited it to my wife a few times over the years. I had wondered how it would sound like if Robbie Burns himself delivered this beautiful sonnet. I think Eddi Reader captured the pensive essence of the poem beautifully with her mellifluous rendition. Brava Ms. Reader !!

I was in a pub in Paisley some years ago with a good friend. It was a Burns night and this Guy introduced himself as the Editor of a Scottish Newspaper .."There is a great speaker on tonight cant wait to hear him"..who is that I asked, "Les Thompson" he replied, meet Les Thompson said I. Now the Irony is that Les now aged 50 has Motor Nurone disease. We often feel helpless in cases like this but even if you do ...give any support you can even a phone call helps more that you might think
