Eddie Bravo gives me my Purple Belt

On July 27, 2022 I was awarded my Purple Belt from the great Master Eddie Bravo himself. It was a very emotional moment, and obviously a huge honor for me.
In this speech that Eddie gives, he explains what is needed to get your belts and advance through the 10th Planet system. I feel like there is some very useful information for anyone interested in starting jiu jitsu, or just wondering what they should do to take their game to the next level.

Congratulations! In my mind Eddie Bravo revolutionized and is a founding father of modern American Jiu Jitsu. I remember when the Brazilians would make fun of his techniques and try to discredit him. You are on a great path, and your contributions to the art will be part of the evolving history of Jiu Jitsu. One thing that makes you stand out is your willingness to introduce anyone to Jiu Jitsu with your $100 challenge. It makes great content, but more so it makes you a great ambassador. And it’s making your skill even better because you’re getting to work on people of all size and skill. Most of us only ever roll with other practitioners which in a sense is one dimensional because we all go by the rules of the game. The only time we get a real new challenge is when the new white belt students come in and then we get to deal with spaz, brute strength type of style etc. I really enjoy your content.

Omg I could not relate more to what Eddie was saying about the structure of class. I when I started, I thought I just sucked at learning but I think a big part of the reason for a slow learning curve is the lack of consistent movement. Every time I would go to class I would feel miles away from what I was supposed to be doing and the reason why I was doing it

One of my biggest regrets was not committing to BJJ early. I could of been at least a blue belt by now. Now I’m 32 and have nothing to show. I boxed. I’d be the equivalent of a brown belt in boxing. But I wish I had a purple in BJJ
