@albertanglo I read he used banjo strings on the high e and b tas they were easier to play. Eddie did not add an extra pickup per se-he swapped out the front pickup for a gibson P90 pickup.

@Bopalena Eddie used a 4 x 10 fender tweed bassman for most of his career. I don't know if he used different amps in the studio though. Fred

@albertanglo Eddies guitar is indeed orange and not red. All of the 6120's from this batch share the same color which is orange. The photos from the 50's seem to vary a good bit in how his guitar looked. Some are oarnge and some as you say are more reddish. Duane Eddy's 6120 is RED but Eddies is orange. I have seen maybe 10 6120's from this batch and they all shared the same color and features. Hope this helps.

I am a dedicated Eddie Cochran fan and have been since 1962, when I was 17. I first heard him on Radio Luxembourg when they released 'Weekend". I got this on 45 vinyl then and later found a big pile of very scratched ex-juke-box singles for sale in a market in London. As I scrabbled through them I found one called "C'mon Everybody" by the same guy who sang 'Weekend". I bought it for a few pennies, and when I put it on at home-all scuffed and crackly- I was astounded by the sounds I was hearing!

Hello Gasmoney. You have totally missed the point I was making, which was this:- Ok so Eddie's guitar was red/orange- whatever. However, in the video of his mother holding a guitar which she says was his, we can clearly see that she is holding a Gretsch that is a natural pine colour i.e. very pale. So did he have two?

to @albertanglo, in the 60's it was very common to use a Tenor A banjo string to replace the E.

@TheNjmusicman I am pretty certain Eddies Cowboy case was burgundy. There are indeed a handful of mid 50's cases that have the emerald color. His I believe was not one of them. Fred
@Tjorvz112 жыл бұрын
@albertanglo Considering the guitar in that video is by that time several years old, we can assume that its colour has faded quite a bit.

@beatlesforever123456 I think it may be F#. I am pretty sure he actually used a capo on that song. I learned a little more form Daryl Higham about Eddies version. My version in this video is a combination of Stray Cats and Eddies.

Darrel visited me at my house a few years back. I asked him about Eddies guitar when he visited Eddies mother. He told me the finish was less orange after years of being in a display case at Eddies mothers house. The guitar she is playing in the film clip you are referring to is Eddie's 6120. No ---there's only one Serial #16942. That's all....

I think gasmoney51 is right in writing that it was orange... There are some photos on which it looks reddish, but if you look at pictures that were taken outside, you can clearly see that it was orange... and as far as I´m concerned, the signature model is, too ;-)

Read an interview with Duane Eddy in Guitar Player and he said his guitar was Orange but used to come out looking red in the pics.
@Tjorvz112 жыл бұрын
@albertanglo Because if you compare the colour of the guitar in the video to the colour of the guitar in the photos where he sits by a lake and another one where he lies in a hammock, the colour is very a-like. I don't think he owned two guitars.

Great inspiration for my own playing. Is it the standard tuning on "Jeannie, Jeannie"?

Well this is not a comment on THIS video, but the one of his mother talking about and holding what she states was Eddie's guitar. However, on all of the photos I have seen, wasn't Eddie's Gretsch firecrest RED in colour? The one she holds is not red at all. Any comments?

I'm gonna Get a 1955 Gretsch 6120. They Look AWESOME, same thing with Buddy Holly's.
@albertanglo12 жыл бұрын
Hi Tjorvz1. Your link to a video does not work. I am referring to the one which has his mother talking about Eddie's bedroom and how she moved hers into it after he died. At one point she has a Gretsch on her lap which she says is Eddie's, which is a light natural wood colour. This is not a choice between red and orange. The one she is holding and accidently bends the tremlo arm is a pale natural wood colour. It is certainly not red or orange.
@Tjorvz112 жыл бұрын
@gasmoney51 Thank you for clearing this up.
@albertanglo13 жыл бұрын
OK, I stand corrected. I play a Gretsch copy- an Aria- but cannot play to your standard. Great stuff!
@Caylus157811 жыл бұрын
Probably partly caused by age and light bleaching out the color, and partly due to the film types used in the 50's that tended to saturate the colors.

Beautiful guitar and you sure know how to play it! Wasn't Eddie's Gretsch a '56 though?
@Tjorvz112 жыл бұрын
@albertanglo I'm sorry, but is this the video you're speaking of? - watch?v=3P6hAAC1oCI I have a theory! SOME of the pictures on E.C's guitar look Red-ish due to hue/saturation of the camera while in the video (and some other, more high-quality photos) the guitar looks to be in its original orange state, this due to the quality of the photo being higher. Could this possibly be something true ... ?
@albertanglo13 жыл бұрын
Hi Gasmoney guy. I thought that Eddie added an extra pickup to his Gretsch and often played with a first E string as the second to allow for easier bending. Any opinions/info?

Hello sorefinger. Criticism re "Eddie Cochran's soloing style had much more attack/balls than you give it" is unfair. Eddie no doubt did several takes during a studio recording session. Our Gasmoney guy is just casually showing us the basics sitting in a creaky chair in his back room somewhere. Not the quite the same situation. Also, you say he gets the riffs wrong, but I would suggest that Eddie would play it a little differently each time anyway! Talk about splitting hairs!
@albertanglo12 жыл бұрын
@Tjorvz1 That is just plain silly. The colour does of such high quality guitars does not "fade" as you put it. Why should it? The wood is dyed and varnished so that the color is permanent. No, there is something out of whack here. Either that is not Eddie's guitar she is holding or he had more than one.
