Wilder and Fury have been using AJ's name to boost their own profile for years. Every time they fought they talked more about AJ than they did each other. AJ had a big fight coming up, both these clowns would pop up pretending they wanted to fight him. They both had chances to fight AJ for undisputed but chose to fight each other instead. And Wilder was only dangerous against cab drivers, and fossils like Luis Ortiz.

Being objective, covid was likely what cost us the opportunity to see AJ Fury more than anything else. AJ wilder is a bit different in that there was a time period before Fury came back that it should really have been made. Rewind to end of February 2020. Fury has just washed Wilder in their 2nd fight and AJ has beaten Ruiz to get his belts back a couple of months earlier. Fury has a rematch clause with Wilder but that fight is contracted to take place within 4 months. AJ's next mandatory is Pulev and his next mandatory after that is Usyk. Covid happens. Fury Wilder 3 can't go ahead as planned initially because all boxing is stopped for a while then laterally because both the PBC and Top Rank are unwilling to pay both fighters their contracted amount without a crowd present. Fury's side get frustrated and try and move on to fight Kabayel(might well have been a more difficult night than many expected). Wilders team move from mediation to arbitration to attempt to enforce the 3rd fight. Fury's team see than as enough of a threat to pull the Kabayel fight. Around the same time AJ deals with Pulev pretty comfortably then seem to make some sort of financial deal with Usyk's people to delay their mandatory until after undisputed. We get strung along for months while the Fury Wilder 3 legal situation plays out. Eddie declares it will be signed "next week" about 20 times yet the noises from the other side are less positive and with good reason....Wilders team eventually enforce the 3rd fight and as soon as this happens Usyk's team are threatening legal action against matchroom to enforce their mandatory. The rest is history. Without covid, and following on from how one sided Fury Wilder 2 was I think Fury was the very likely winner of their 3rd fight had it happened before june 2020 as originally contracted though had Wilder reversed it then he would have been in a great position for his people to negotiate with AJs. Under normal circumstances AJ could have fought and likely beat Pulev earlier too which would have left a good 16 month window to get a huge fight made. I would selfishly still quite like to see Fury AJ now but Usyk's brilliance has taken quite a lot away from it and I have real concerns on how much AJ has left following on from the DDD fight.
