When you look at the 147 landscape, Boot’s size, and his last two performances, it will be 3-4 years before Boots can unify 147 with all the bureaucratical red tape. Floyd never unified, and he was the most popular and highest paid in the sport. The truth is that some fighters come into the game at the wrong time for unification to happen. And other fighters, like Terrence Crawford, all the stars aligned for them to unify in their careers. Boots could have become a massive star overnight on a world stage had he faced and beat Ortiz. And their team knows that! They didn’t want to take the risk of Boots getting beat and having to get at the back of the line. It was a smart move politically, but a bad business decision.
