I forgot who said it this morning, but Sharpe is right. When they rely on KD and he is going, they are an elite team, but games will be closer and they will win more like you see with game 1. When Curry is going that is when they are a historic team. Curry going is when they go on those 25-2 runs and bury teams. Part of that is the nature of how they are used though. KD leading the way, they are usually playing a bit more iso and running through him that way. Curry, that is when they are flowing, getting up and down, moving the ball at their peak. Curry going is when everybody on that team gets going as well.

Steph is the point guard, the on court general. He not only scores but he can pass very well too. He helps his teammates get their shots. Without him they wouldn’t even be winning one game against Houston tbh. The only thing Kevin Durant does is score. And even in that category Steph and him are pretty much equal if you look at the season stats for both of them( Steph 26.4 ppg, KD 26.4 ppg )

If you compare players without basketball or a team involved KD is better, therefore the best player. If you compare players with a team involved Steph is better. In a 1v1 or in a player matchup (1v1 but its still a 5v5 game) KD will get you a higher percentage of made shots. The difference is this is a 3pt league, and the GSW are a 3pt shooting team. KD generates 'free' 2 points Steph generates open 3 point attempts If you matched GSW + KD vs GSW + Steph, steph would win by blowout 'every' time maybe 90-120 would be the score.

The only reason why this debate exists if because of consistency. Durant, like Lebron, is a near constant. In every game, you can count on him, he will make the shots whenever you need him. But Steph, being a shooter, and one of the best ever (some say the best, maybe), depends A LOT of streaks. If he is cold, then the Warriors are going to suffer. If he is hot, then they are going to win easily. But the thing is, with Durant, Steph is not as important cause you have an anchor already (with Green on defense). The Warriors are more consistent with Durant. That is why they would lose same games by 20, like the past two seasons (not this one, though), just because their shooters, and mostly Curry, go cold. This is also the result of being a 3 point shooting league. Look at the scoreboards. Whoever shoots best from 3 point, wins the game nearly every time. And if there is a big difference, then it is a blowout.

Steph Curry is easily more important to the Warriors than KD. Don't get me wrong, KD is the best player, but Steph is more important. KD has amazing games where he'll put up anywhere between 38-41 points but they'll barely get by with close margin victories of about 4-5 points each time. This is because KD's scoring is so self-contained and isolated. For example, the first two games against the Rockets KD went off for 37 and 38 yet he only had one assist in both games combined. In the regular season he had a streak of monster games without Curry yet they still went 13-8. Curry is more valuable because he exemplifies eveything it means to be a Golden State Warrior. When Steph scores, it's shared amomgst everybody because players are happy that they got him the assist or they set a screen for him or they got a pass from him. He generates offense, he gives them electrifying momentum, and he makes sure everyone gets to touch the ball. He is THE catalyst for the team.

The one time I’ll agree with skip. He always brings up this topic that all the GS homers and bandwagons routinely wipe out of their memories; Curry isn’t the same player in the playoffs. When that 3 ball isn’t falling, he won’t beat the opposition in any other areas. His presence alone will open up opportunities, he never goes cold, cause when he’s open, it’s like a layup for anybody else. Elite smothering, physical defenses, he hasn’t thrived against those. But Houston didn’t do anything right last night, they let Steph do whatever to them and didn’t counter. Didn’t play anything like they did in game 2.
