Sadly, the reason he smiled so much was because he was usually drunk off his ass. Alcoholism is a horrible thing. I just wonder if things would have turned out different if he didn't have this disease.

His rhythm pocket is just as good as his dexterity, speed, innovative ideas, soul, tone, sense of melody, etc. He’s truly just on a completely different level than everybody else.

Man, it's totally true. We don't want to admit it, but it really is the case. Is Ed playing ANYTHING here that is 'his'? And it's plain as day, Ed thru and thru. If I were a beginner, I'd take this to heart. I wonder if anybody could identify thia as EVH if they only listened to the guitar, you know?

Gone but not forgotten. What an amazing artist. I'd say he was unquestionably the biggest influence on electric guitar since Hendrix. Will there ever again be anyone who makes such a mark with such a unique and novel voice on the instrument? Who knows? Breaks my heart he left this world too soon.

They're great but so was SRV, and currently, Marcin Patrzaleck. My current favorite is Josephine Alexandra. I've never heard Sweet Child 'O Mine like that before, and her other renditions of Smells Like Teen Spirit, and Love Story.

Really, think so? Lindsay Buckingham said that EVH was a great virtuoso but overall VH albums had too much material that wasn't good. I think that’s overall a fair assessment.

Have been teaching my young son to play guitar and, hes not bad. He has the feel for it. The other day I guess he was feeling a little bit cocky and said “Dad, check this out” He then proceeded to bang through some old rock chords and sounded pretty good with good form. I said “Ok” come with me. I put EVH eruption live DVD in and put it on surround sound. My sons bottom jaw dropped and he only said one word through the whole solo. “How” mind blown. Needless to say, Eddie got a new fan and im going through my EVH stuff to pass down. Rest in peace

You can tell someone that truly truly loves to just play. That was EVH. Every time he was playing or even just "noodling" (as he calls it), he was always smiling from ear to ear. And that is what seperates an artist from loving what he does to just being in it for the fortune and fame

People keep saying "after Hendrix".....LOL, my ass. Of course Hendrix was outstanding and pioneering and loved by many, but EVH was more influential, more innovative and inspired many more...I'm not even comparing the playing between the two, just the outptut and impact.

@@hughsnow830 I was born in '63 - and I was ready to take in whatever came along and, for whatever reason, Hendrix, Clapton just did not make an impression. BTO II Randy Bachman changed my life in 1973 and I still hear his strat when i think about strat sounds; then Page, Frehley, Lifeson...I was trying to learn their languages and not doing it well, then came Eruption - and it was as if the ocean was parted and the sun turned purple...I was in shock and there was no question it was a whole new; that same thing happened when I saw Metallica opne on the '88 Monsters of Rock tour and they tore the Hoosier Dome apart - I did not even stay for Van Hagar...I knew Hetfield was doing something groundbreaking with tone and rhythm guitar....but still to this day, I don't need any further inspiration after EVH and Hetfield. I still love Randy Bachman - I still don't understand Hendrix.

Three ultra top tier guitarists(Al Di Meola, Pat Metheny and Steve Morse) were/are still big fans of Edward and paid their respects to him when he passed away. If these three superb players were big Edward fans then Edward was even better than we fans even thought.

Well he did use one,non locking for years,but was always set flat made it work.he worked with stuff as it came me along.i think ,the first Floyd didn't have tuners,that was his idea,I think Brad Gillis had one in that red strat,no tuners,he was one of the first to get one

@@JoeR203 Nahhhh...... Randy Hansen was the first one which is logical because the other ones were stars by then and not the first to approach for FR. Apparently it were Brad Gillis, Neil, Schon and EvH in that order. Contacts went through guitar techs as usual.

I can dive bomb strats and shake them pretty good and stay in tune with out a locking nut. The trick is to always end coming down. The bar won't go up to tune very good, but you give it a gentle upwards tug and let the springs pull it back from an up position and it stays in tune almost as good as a Floyd with a locking nut.

One of the most original ever….his influences are hard to nail down which make him different…very original in sound and technic….that said, there are others…many his predecessors, that had same or similar level of talent….no matter what he was one of the most original.
