Tord is a clone in The End. That's how the theory goes - but is it correct? In this video I look back through the History of Eddsworld to see if the Tord from Eddsworld Legacy is really the Tord from the Classic Eddisodes.

To add on more to show how much the boys have changed while Tord was gone, he seems to be shocked or at least emotionless when Edd first hugged him. Like in the video said, they all barely or even NEVER hugged one another before. Tord didn't seem to expect Edd to suddenly hug him at all, which is probably why he didn't hug back cause he wasn't used to this sudden change of his old friend

im surprised i havent yet seen anyone mention that tord used to be much less talkative. not like as a character trait, but just in general before tord left, the characters besides edd seemed to talk the least. i noticed that for sure, tord didnt have all too many voice lines, and we had to garner his personality from many of his actions. and his actions in the end are VERY in character. he feels so wrong in the end because he has so many voice lines, since legacy and near ending classic era eddsworld felt much more like tv shows than a simple webseries. they actually FINALLY have flowing and longer dialogue, and tord didnt get that until the very end. to watch a character that didnt talk so much before, speak so often (and with deeper character intention), it definitely felt like i was watching a new character on screen. legacy was made with much more foreshadowing and intention for a bigger storyline than any of the older eddisodes were, since eddsworld is very episodic, and very much more so in the classic days. along with that they did exaggerate character traits from each character so i bet if the end was animated in like 2006 itd feel just right.

Based on the lore of the show, while he was away from edd and working as the red leader, he couldve gained some talking skills and manipulation tactics. With all the training, he would probably be a much better smooth talker. Also, work on his quietness as well, if he was shy. But, i completely know where youre coming from, tord spoke the most lines in the end parts 1 and 2 than ever.

My initial assumption for why Tord isn't a clone in The End is that he was gonna travel the world with the Red Army and do Tord things, but he got really power-hungry in the process and felt like getting his giant robot back at home. I really like the idea that the main boys changed a lot while Tord didn't change a lot, though.

I remember there was some hints about that Tom and Tord hated each other wayyy back. Not the real ones, the fictional. There is an old video where Tord was telling about how Tom hated him I think. So yep, and also, Tom was the only one who didn't want him to come back, so, you know, he already was pretty annoying for Tord

The flashback was supposed to explain why Matt didn't remember Tord and possibly explain why his character shifted to the later depictions of Matt. They may have also used the flashback as an opportunity to improve Tord's original departure from the way it was originally presented since Tord simply drove off with no dialogue or reason given.

this is honestly THE BEST THEORY for The End. it quite literally makes alot of sense: all the character growth came to Tom, Matt and Edd BECAUSE they spent more time together and atleast "tolerate" themselves more. Tord never got any of that because he left prior, so hes basically on the outside looking in. Very good video!

I think this thing about Tord being aggressive because of the old Eddsworld makes sense when you remember that the old Eddsworld had no continuity, being its own thing and then in the next Eddsode everything is fine despite having everyone die in the last one. So probably Tord, with that old immature mentality, thought that at the end of the Eddsode everyone would be fine in the next Eddsode, as if nothing had happened Heck, there are literally 4 episodes where Matt kills his friends (Zombeh Attack 1 and 3, Matt Sucks and Halloween '05). So Tord wasn't prepared for things not to change At least that's what I interpreted

I know well that Tord isn’t a clone, the one from the end, especially after reading something that made everything made sense and why they made that happen with Tord in the end. I do like the theory though, especially since many people can be creative with it and make their own stories out of it which some of them are honestly pretty good. But for the main reason why I think at least some people will like to heavily believe that he IS a clone at the end is because maybe, just maybe they don’t want to believe that is Tord. Like that Tord would never do that especially since it was all so sudden. I know there are people who didn’t like how Tord turned out in the end and they would rather believe it was a clone and not the real Tord, but hey, they did what they did. Unless the Eddsworld team decided to just say, “Yup the Tord in the end was a clone!” Then yeah but for now, thats Tord. People can keep believing what they believe though. I do like the clone theory, its cool especially since spares is one of my favorite eddisodes.

I am one of the people who did not like the decision to make Tord the "final villain" at all. But all in all, I enjoyed that episode quite a bit. and I quite agree, the clone theory is probably the best known in the fandom, and it is not for nothing, some simply want to believe in the friendship of the 4 protagonists, myself included. We just have to wait for the "final ending" to see what they do with Tord's plot

Really good video! This video genuinely made me reconsider Tords "mischaracterization". Really the only difference is that Classic Tord is more quiet and distant while Legacy is more sly and coy. But I feel like a point to mention is that another reason fans tend to retcon Legacy Tord is 1. The fandom exaggerates his evilness, for example the Beginning and the Friend to point where he's actually mischaracterized, and 2. They really hate Jamie Spicer Lewis for what should be obvious and want to disown his association to Tord. That's why I bought the clone theory

I think people wish Tord in The End isn't the real one because they long for the time where he was friends with them. Or at least he was hanging out with them instead of being so clearly against them. Tord in The End not being the real one would mean that the real one didn't deny their friendship, and that the good old times aren't fully gone since Tord, the real one, can still get along with the others. We all want the good old times to come back, this is the case for a lot of things, not just Eddsworld. This is something that happens when you grow up. You look back fondly on the easier and simpler times of your childhood, and you wish things could go back to the way they were. For a good amount of Eddsworld fans, these simpler times might coincide with the time when Tord was still part of the main cast, and they, maybe unconsciously, associate Tord being a part of the cast as part of these simpler times they wish they could go back to. They care a lot about Eddsword since it was something they grew up with. They are attached to these characters and they want them to be happy together, and that "together" includes Tord. Personally, I sadly didn't get the chance to grow up with Eddsworld. I discovered its existence with FNF, which I think is a bit of a shame since I missed all the big moments of being part of this fandom. But even if I don't have the attachment to these characters that the older fans have, I get where they're coming from, I really do. As I said, we all wish we could go back to when things weren't as stressful and complicated, and that includes me. And I do associate these simpler times to when things were simpler in the fictional works I like. For example, when I started watching the SMG4 series, it wasn't as dark and serious. It was a stupid fun time to enjoy and get a good laugh while turning your brain off, but now my life is a lot more complicated, and so is the SMG4 series. I wish things could go back to the way they were, both for my life and the SMG4 series since I associate both to simpler and happier times. That doesn't mean current SMG4 isn't good, but the original charm is gone, the characters we love went through a lot of trauma (which the writers seem to avoid acknowledging) and it will never be the same as it was. This is also part of the reason why people were mad at some of the character's redesigns. Getting rid of the old designs means getting further and further away from the original SMG4 series that they've grown to love, and maybe helped them laugh when times were tough. I think the older Eddsworld fans feel the same way and I can see why. The Clone Tord theory might be way they voice their hope that the good old times aren't completely gone, that they can come back to them.

As someone who's a fan of SMG4, respectfully, I have to say I disagree with the charm of it being gone. It's different now, sure, but it's still the same show from way back then, but now they have an actual team and a budget to make their videos and stories much better for the fans and the viewers. As someone who watched Eddsworld after its completion, watching the whole thing through, I was always confused on how people thought Tord was mischaracterized. I thought he was a violent, gun-loving guy who liked lude pictures of women before “The End”. During “The End” I thought, “yeah, that makes sense, he would try to make it in the big city, Tord’s way.” (I feel like I have to acknowledge that real-life Tord probably doesn’t act in this way. He probably is a great guy, but I’m separating character from character inspiration, or c!Tord and cc!Tord.)

Talking about this with other eddheads it makes more sense that tord was probably going through some sort of psychotic break and was saying a bunch of things he didn’t really mean. The only thing I don’t think is in character for Tord is how quickly he threw his friendship with the others away. I feel like he woulda at least said something or asked them about joining him bc taking over the world sounds right up the crew’s alley, especially if you consider Edd thought of a plan to take over the world with bacon, and of course they decline because like you said they grew up while he didn’t. Tord is annoyed with them for being different, they’re annoyed with him for being the same, then he blows Tom up. Chaos ensues, Tord’s robot explodes, end of the episode. A quick fix that I think would clear up the confusion is to add a quick back and forth, before Tom throws the sofa, between edd and Tord that replaces the whole “what would I need friends for?” Bit. Tord rises up, shooting at Tom in the house for fun, blows up the neighbors bc y’know that’s just how he is, then Edd shows up. Edd asks what’s going on, then Tord replies with how he couldn’t leave the robot and offers Edd the chance to hop in and join him. Edd asks “join you for what??”, then Tord says “join me in taking over the world, of course! What else did you think I was planning? C’mon edd, it’ll be just like old times!”. Edd thinks, then declines since he’s grown as a character from that. Tord is dumbfounded for a moment, questions him for denying, Edd explains that he doesn’t want to do that type of stuff anymore (or at least tries to explain), Tord is annoyed and THEN decides to throw away his friendship. Tom shows up, and the episode continues as we see it. Playing it out like this feels more like how Tord would approach it, making him less of an evil villain and more of a carefree kid that just wants to keep doing what he’s always did with his friends. And making him ignore the crew AFTER a quick argument like this sends a stronger message, it shows that if you refuse to grow up then you are doomed to fail and be forgotten by others. Because growing as a person gives you a bigger chance to succeed, since you’re learning as you grow. Tord becomes a cautionary tale as he spirals deeper into this destructive behavior he’s refused to leave behind like the other three (mostly) did. That’s just my thoughts on the whole thing, I definitely don’t believe the clone theory anymore but I also still think once Tord got into the robot he kinda became more out of character. Maybe he just went mad with power and I’m thinking too much about it, who knows. Either way, at the end of the day Tord is still Tord.

Now that we have the new Tord teaser from the Eddsworld tiktok update, we can also rule out the possibility of Tord being a clone because of the bandage. He’s shown with a cut on his cheek, exactly where his bandage in “The End” is, confirming that he did get hurt somehow along the way on his cheek, and it isn’t just an odd clone fail or gunshot wound from Spares.

this makes so much sense thinking about the whole "already tried to take over the world" thing. by him leaving, that's him being left to his own accord much like the christmas special 2005 where he tried to take over the world. the main 3 are what keep him at bay of going *too* far, so the reason i think he feels remorseful is because of that rehumanisation of edd tom and matt to tord when he sees them and realises they are human. they are what keeps him going too far so really i think this is about his independent ambition which he cannot fulfil because he cares too much about the people around him that he wouldn't want to see them get hurt until he goes too far one way, fails, and then regrets and swings back the other way. i think he truly wants world domination but he has too many morals in his head to fully let him achieve that. such a peak video bro i love this perspective and i wish i had clocked sooner cause it makes more sense now

I never looked at it that way and it actually makes sense, if it was the old days, Tord could have done all this and in the end the 4 of them would be sitting on the couch with Edd saying something like "Ah, now everything is back to normal" and the series would continue without a hitch, maybe Tord thought that way when he came back but then realized he couldn't get away with it this time!

I never believed tord was a clone, and I really did enjoy The End. My only complaints were that it left some things unexplained, like how he was suddenly fixated on Tom, and you did just explain that it was probably to get access to his room but if you didn't say that then it probably would have NEVER crossed my mind. And also the voice. I was disappointed that they didn't find a Norwegian voice actor for Tord, and it didn't sound very much like him either.

I think the biggest change in his character is not seeing the other boys as friends, especially when he was in his robot. Even though they were really violent and didn't seem very friendly, that was mostly because of the boys' edgy humor back then. I think teenagers and young adults' senses of humor are quite different, and that absolutely echoes with Eddsworld's writing. It's fine for tord to be the most violent one, just not as an evil stranger. He even talks a lot more, which isn't what he was like back then.

'Bad writing' is not really a viable explanation for me either as far as the story is concerned, it doesn't connect in-universe, its something outside the realm of what is established to be fact. Plus 'Bad Writing' is subjective, not everyone is going to say the writing was bad. Tord's character has not had the chance to mature in the in way the other three have. I think it's a more compelling story, the clone theory for me could work but I think it cheapens the impact it has both in the characters and the story. Could Tord being a clone work canonically? (if the Beyond Team ever decide to bring him back in a meaningful way - other than a gag/ reference) Sure - if its written in a believable and respectful manner. I'd personally love to see character development even if its subtlety implied like we saw with Eduardo's sadness/ regretful demeanor in Beaster Bunny. That spares box at the end of 'New Year, New You' and the sudden Tord yootooz merch has my mind buzzing filled with questions about what the implications and possibilities could be are endless. What could it mean? We will have to just wait and see. Eddsworld has always been a background secret brainrot of mine since 2010, so much so it's invaded my art journey and content in so many ways, only recently has it come to the surface as something I'm willing to be open about. Safe to say this is the first time I've really commented publically on Eddsworld (outside of my own recent video). I've always been a sucker for Edd's subtle humour, his work ethic and passion was unmatched and very inspirational, I aspired to it for my own illustration skills. Tom/Eddie's more narrative approach for an overarching plot was something I really latched onto, was it perfect? No. I can see in the Beyond era some plot points are sticking around, like Jon's death for example which although I'm sad for, on a storytelling front I'm so glad they are not outright dismissing the events of Legacy and following on from what happened; building on what Tom left.

You forgot one thing that is inconsistent with Tord's character, it's him being the inventor. The classic episodes never established anything like that. Sure, he liked weapons, war and violence. But he was never a scientist, so The End really makes no sense in this regard, as we see that he himself bulit the giant robot and weird sofa thingies. But even despite this, I agree with you that the clone theory was never true and never will be. It just doesn't make sense story-wise.

Honestly, I'm considering this interpretation of The End canon and the true intent of the series. It really feels honest and truly what the creators intended. I Honestly did wish that Tord could be part of the gang again, the 4 crazy wacky best friends, but 3 is still more than enough for me.

so basically the actual plot of the end was tord comes back to see his friends have changed but he hasnt and that leaves with some conflict due to them no longer accepting the old shenanigans they used to do with tord anymore they grew up tord stayed young so i feel like at that last part of the end part 2, tord was somewhat genuinely heart broken as im thinking he thought they were still okay with his Shenanigans, and nothing looked too out of the ordinary until they actually decided to no longer be friends with him

Honestly, it makes a whole lot more sense. Don’t get me wrong I still like the clone theory, but seeing the resemblance between how Tord acted in classic & legacy, it definitely shows that he didn’t grow up between that period of time he was gone. Though I wonder if what would happen to his character if Matt does plan to bring back Tord in a future EW beyond. (Yes I know about the post he made recently showing Tord, but I think that might be for a flashback episode or something.)

I just thought of The End is not canon, not only does Tord act differently, but the flashback scene for 25ft Under the Seat was changed. Tord is more violent than the others but I wouldn't call him flat out evil. With the Tord taking over in the alternate timeline thing, that wasn't even in the main timeline, and you say the same for Matt in Zombeh Attack. For Tord's Adventure, there was a lot of jokes in Eddsworld Classic about the characters fighting each other, so I wouldn't call one with Tord out of place. There's also multiple instances of Tord being good to his friends, Tord's concern for Tom when he aimed the gun at his eye, Tord helping Edd in Zombeh Attack, Tord and Tom trying to outsmart the murderer in that Halloween Special, along with many others. There’s also the joke about Matt’s personal hell being multiple Edd’s and saying “at least Edd’s dead” and also the “Not the coke machine!” thing. It seems like those moments was played for laughs more than Tord being a serious villain that actually hated his friends.

That's the best explanation I wanted to hear, because I always liked the clone theory and some kinda belive it. But.. at the end of the day I always thought Tord was the Tord we all knew. What I liked about the video is that it wasn't Tord who became more evil than before, but in fact Edd, Tom and Matt became kinder to each other so that Tord would remain the only one who didn't evolve in their friendship. But I still think Tord has become a little more serious than it was before, I don't know if it's good or not, 😅 but I'm very happy for this video!

Funny thing is that I never believed the stupid theory that Tord was a clone because when I started watching the show I started at the first episodes. I didn't watch the brand new stuff because I wouldn't really know the characters that well, and when I watched The End I was happy to see Tord EXACTLY the same. Then, some theory about Tord being a clone in the end part 1 and 2, I found it idiotic. I have a posible explanation for the whole Tord being evil thing in The End. My guess is Tord was a spy sent by the red army to spy on the UK but he was demoted after Moving Targets for accidentally destroying their base. my evidence: 1: Tord has an endless variety of weapons most of which are firearms and guns aren’t very easy to get in the UK, 2: Tord has been showed to be very quiet in past eddisodes but in The End he is talkative likely forgetting how his relationship with the boys was as his showed to be surprised when Edd hugged him, and 3: Tord moved away in 25ft under the seat ironically the previous eddisode was Moving Targets and he and the boys accidentally destroyed the red army’s base.

This video was total whiplash for me, mostly for Tord being my favorite. I don’t know if so love this video, absolutely hate it or both. I never saw Tord in the End as a clone, but I don’t see Tord as evil either and I feel that we only know half of the story. I however got extremely mad when you skip the fact that Tord and Edd were BFFs and yes they had fights and the fights were a little over the top, but I feel like Tord never wanted to kill Edd, making Tord telling Edd that he was not his friend an even more powerful line. I am hoping for him to have a redemption arch. I feel if Tom and Tord had to fight together and actually get along for once would be very interesting to see, and Tom being the one trying to convince Matt and Edd that Tord is now on their side. But I understand if he never gets that. It will hurt my heart but it’s Matt’s decision to make.

This theory is the reason I love the end! I’ve always thought tord had regretted what he did and has to live with it. Something I’ve thought different tho is he hadn’t spent a lot of time with Edd, Matt, and Tom when he came back, so it’s confusing for me to think he would change. In some other video where someone showed Tord talking about why he left a lot of comments seemed upset that he was apparently turned into a villain. Most of them seemed to think he was made into the main villain was because the actual person left and the others were upset. This was an interesting take It makes me appreciate the fact that the real tord could be red leader however I still have a good theory that has a lot of evidence to support it. My theory is that the red leader tord that we see in the end is the tord from the universe that he became a full blown communist, though I don’t know how or why that he’s now in the main universe it dose make more sense than the clone theory.
