Just got her fired up yesterday! No issues so far! The sand blasting kit is worth the $30 in my opinion. Gets the job done if you dont mind the mess it leaves behind lol.

I polished one of these 351M turds before too. Stripped all of the emissions stuff off. Seen a kit that had Carb, cam, intake, XL coil, headers and MT valve covers that came in real handy later. How could I resist? Started breaking valve springs here and there. I had used the factory valve springs. Every once in a while one would break and spit a push rod out. Probably a little too much lift on the cam. The valve covers and Head design made it easy to reach into the valley to retrieve the push rod and look at the lifter. It was a waste of money, but it sure sounded good. It was in a 78 Ford F150. Truth is, is that my 78 T-Bird, same engine unmolested by me and the parts store, was more reliable. A lot quieter too. Peace.

Your best initial upgrade would have been a early 351c torque cam and timing chain then a set of closed chamber heads then the four barrel manifold and carb.

Modern Cams would walk all over that prehistoric bumpstick.
