Great vid and inspiring as always I would be interested to know your thoughts about mono vs stereo if not wet-dry or even more wet-dry-wet guitars setup for Radiohead or bands with which have this type of sound for recordings but also live situation
@JoeEdelmann34 ай бұрын
Stereo setups can be fun, and wet-dry/wet-dry-wet I haven’t really tried as much, but the main thing when playing live is all about logistics … if you can afford (in terms of time/stage space) to bring the extra amps or input channels on a mixer, then by all means have at it, but I’ve found I can get plenty dreamy sounds on a good old fashioned mono setup as well. In the studio it’s always a good idea to experiment though!

Is there a large diffrence beetween the sound of the JHS kilt and the JHS Crayon specifically for attempting to create the bodysnatchers tone? I own the crayon and while I do like it for that song its always sounded slightly off.
@mattylar29254 ай бұрын
The Kilt is based on the Bixonic Expandora pedal (which is based loosely on the proco rat), which Thom used live for bodysnatchers during the In Rainbows era. The crayon is based on the tone of cranked preamp of a vintage recording console, which is actually what Thom did for his distorted tone on bodysnatchers. You have to consider that the signal was then compressed and equalised after.
@JoeEdelmann34 ай бұрын
Mattylar said it well! They’re different versions of the tone, one that he used live and one that’s sort of what he did in studio. The Crayon is great also but a different/unique vibe. The kilt is more of a traditional distortion and less velcro-y, plus it does great overdrive and fuzz.

Always felt like Thom doesn't get enough props for having fantastic guitar tone, but it's understandable when you're in a band with Jonny Greenwood & Ed O'Brien. Also, you should do a video on the new JHS Hard Drive! They claim it does a good Shredmaster impression, I think you're qualified to put that to the test. (Edit: Also also, what pickups are in your Casino because my stock pickups sound trash)

Kilt is a fuzz right?
@JoeEdelmann33 ай бұрын
@@coccobelo it’s a little bit of everything (overdrive, distortion, fuzz) depending on how you have its gain switches set! Similar to its cousin, the ProCo Rat. I use it as a distortion.
@coccobelo3 ай бұрын
@@JoeEdelmann3 yea but the tone from bodysnatchers seems more like a fuzz yo me. I'm wrong?
@JoeEdelmann33 ай бұрын
@@coccobelo on the studio recording, it’s a mixing desk direct input cranked all the way into what some call “console distortion”, which has hairier/fuzz-like, qualities. Live in 2008 Thom used the Expandora distortion (which the Kilt replicates). Nowadays he uses his Crowther Hotcake (an overdrive/distortion). At the end of the day, different distortion tones all come down to how aggressively you clip the signal and EQ it!
