Ederson Moraes goalkeeper warm up from the Premier League match recently between Manchester City and Newcastle. The match was played on the 29th of January 2019, ending in a 2-1 win for Newcastle United.

Xabier Mancisidor Macazaga is the goalkeeper coach for Manchester City, under the management of Pep Guardiola. Ederson, otherwise known as Ederson Moraes is the starting goalkeeper.

You’re not the first to have noticed this Christian, it’s surprised a lot of people. It’s evident in both Ederson and Aro Muric in this video which is interesting, do you like this kind of technique or not?

@@FrazGoalkeeping I am a goalkeeper and I have been taught not to keep my legs too wide because I lose power when I jump, because I can't move my feet towards the ball. However, he is doing that just when the ball is on his right or left and the angle he has to cover is small.... therefore he doesn't need to use power to jump, he just has to be quick and it helps him keeping wide legs. Very interesting technique.....I like it, but I think that it takes a lot of practice to master it. Quick question: PSG- REAL Madrid the second goal of Di Maria...in my opinion there is a huge mistake of Courtois, look at his feet, he move his legs on the other way he is supposed to, because he keeps initially his legs to wide and as a consequence to coordinate himself he has to step towards his right foot with his leg foot and then dive. By doing that he lost 10/15 centimetres and time.... reason why Di Maria scored....I think many people don't understand how a great footwork and coordination is probably 70% of the save

Couldn’t agree more with you! I’m a smaller goalkeeper so I really need to keep my legs narrow so that I can stay as tall as I can! As for the Di Maria goal, again what you are saying is the same as I saw it, his legs were so far wide he couldn’t get any power from the wide set to be able to gain the jump needed

@@FrazGoalkeeping I just saw Champions League...Hradecky just did the same mistake we were talking about...in Higuain's gol, look at his feet, he stepped with his right foot towards his left foot losing time and centimetres....how would you fix this problem? Which kond of training would you do? Which goalkeeper don't do that? It seems a common mistake

He did! Well spotted - it’s becoming a huge problem for goalkeepers. During the Kepa warm up I filmed, he has a huge arm swing which, personally, I don’t think is the right technique but some keepers use it. The only type of training I can think of is having a resistance band between the ankles to keep the legs close together and shoulder width apart. We will 100% see this mistake happen again and again, one keeper I’ve seen who doesn’t use this is Maty Ryan. He’s only 6ft so needs to maintain his height
