Nice to see a film reissued that hasn’t seen a release since the VHS days. Need more releases like this. Day one. 👍🏻

Eric Lewis thanks for that list I’ve been looking for new Slashers to track down even if I have to find VHS. I missed so many in the 80s.

Fun fact that the end of the 80s produced one of its greatest slashers: Bloodnight/ Night of Intruder (1989)

There's ONE slasher from the 80's that zero companies tried to get the rights and i dont understand why....Junior (a cut above) is a movie i used to rent constantly and i think it falls into the so bad its good category....as for edge of the axe i pre ordered this the day it was available. cant wait to get my copy. Awesome review as always!

Slasher and horror fanatic here ( I saw Fulci's Zombie, Phantasm, Xtro, Humongous, Fri 13th, DOTD, etc etc as a kid in the theater ) and the mystique about Edge Of The Axe far outweighs its goodness as a film …. Complete let down on this one, with its hokey tech angle and very uncreepy locations … For a guy who made a masterpiece like Symptoms, José Ramón Larraz really laid an egg w/ Edge imho .. You want a forgotten slasher, 1982's Unhinged will kick Edge's ass ..

I can’t wait to watch this movie! I’m even waiting for tonight when my fiancé is asleep and we get close to the creepy midnight hour! I’ve been waiting since about 13yrs old which is when it came out to watch this movie. I never got to see it so this will be my first time and if I can’t see it through my 13yr old eyes and mind I feel like this is the next best way. Thank you for the review and I am excited!!!

Hey Pizowell, i just picked up American Gothic 1988 on Blu Ray it isn't loaded with Special Features or anything special at all. But the picture itself is nice I'd say it's never looked so crisp. I just wondered if you had seen this film or picked it up to review it. Thank you,

So, I'm about 1/2 way through the film. It just got released on Shudder (US) I believe, as I hadn't seen it available there before now. And I just have to ask, does anyone else have a hard time with the dialog? It's horrible! lol Just strange random comments and dialog that just wouldn't be said. Very unnatural, unbelievable and jarring imo Now I know if you take the film and look at it a certain way that one can "laugh" at these moments/lines...but "to me" it really detracts from what the film is trying to do and could be, if it were written better. I know it's indie, I know it's a Spanish production film, I can handle low budget films, I LOVE Roger Corman films!!! But I'm a stickler for "realistic" dialog. It's the one thing that any production can & should bring to the table regardless of budget. I mean , all the dialog with old man the one kid is renting from? What the hell is that all about lol It's crazy talk! And...***** SPOILER**** sort of, the Sheriff is an ass! The only likeable characters so far are the girls. But I like the setting, I enjoy the 80s small town look/feel, the effects are passable for the budget I guess. It's filmed well for what it is and so is the score. But damn man, that dialog is killing me. Please tell me I'm not alone here ;) Ok, rant over...back to finish the film lol Cheers \m/

Watched it for the first time recently, man was I disappointed, I almost blind bought it upon release. This and Deadly Manor I can say I hate but I usually rewatch films that I hate (especially slashers).

I just saw it.. picture quality was so good that you see in one scene that killer is man.. and you know what that means for rest of a movie right? Like worst continuity error ever? :)
@daredevil3503 жыл бұрын
And I notice that too at 1st I thought it was Lillian covered to look like a man. But when it shows her deranged look at the very end I was like oh she's the killer. They kinda did what Sleepaway Camp did. Judy's death was suppose to be Angela doing the killing but that 1 shot its her cousin played in the movie with a wig so maybe that's what they were intending idk.

"Great suspense...Axe killings were pretty freakin' brutal." You can't be serious. This movie is void of ANY kind of suspense; and that's actually what bugs me the most about it. There's nothing to tie the killings together with the story, and it actually feels like I'm watching two different movies. Sure, you get a reason at the end, but what I mean is, there's no lurking, or sense of danger, you just get a tiny fraction of that when the kill is set to happen. It's just rinse and repeat in the laziest way possible. Very, very lame. And as far as the kills go, get real. Saying the kills were brutal is you trying to sell this movie on something that motivates most slasher fans. The kills are not brutal, or done in any kind of impressive way at all. You just see a killer hitting people with an axe and then they get bloody. Sure, there a few fingers cut off in one scene, but come on. Very far from being impressive or worth the 30 bucks I dropped on this movie. No, this one's a must miss. Go buy 'Happy Birthday to Me' instead and watch that, people.
