Now you're talking! Capitalize on and re-use, re-use, re-use the water sources. And spectacular growth on your blackberries. Super wonderful progress on the edge of the desert.

That is the goal long term. You can argue that all of our black and greywater is technically being reused as it's going into our septic system and helping with our poultry pasture, but this is very direct!

I’ve seen those gray water outlets done with saw kerfs too. If those holes ever start clogging up or get overwhelmed you could take a skill saw and cut a shallow kerf in each hole location and it’ll dump the water crazy fast.
@EdgeofNowhereFarm Жыл бұрын
Ok Jared, you're dropping knowledge on me here that I've not heard of before. Now to Google to see what you mean by a kerf.
@jaredmccutcheon5496 Жыл бұрын
@@EdgeofNowhereFarm A kerf is where you take a circular saw and cut a slit in something but not all the way through, just as deep as you need it to be to achieve whatever goal you’re after.

Hey Eric! We were just talking about you earlier today. Had the Fall farm tour yesterday and we were trying to remember when you were out last. Talking with folks yesterday who we've interacted with here on YT and have never met before and it makes me think of some of you guys we've gotten to know over the years here.
@ericbowers1620 Жыл бұрын
@@EdgeofNowhereFarm So far I was only at the first tour you had at the new farm. The one where I think you were sick or someone got sick and it canceled or moved I was planning on coming with my folks who wanted to see it in person since they had only seen videos I showed them. I guess Ive also been allowing it to grow in more before checking it out again. You and Lori do such a great job in the videos showing whats been done or going on now that it feels like Im right there all the time. :) How is the old farm doing for the ones that bought it? Bet they are overwhelmed with fruit.
@EdgeofNowhereFarm Жыл бұрын
@@ericbowers1620 ok, I couldn't remember for sure. We canceled last year when I came down with Covid the day before the tour! I'm not sure how the old farm is doing. Last I spoke with the new owners they were having some health challenges, so I've been giving them some space. We're friends with them on FB and they posted pics of their granddaughter eating the mulberries in the Spring, so I imagine they are loaded with fruit!

I'itoi are easy. this time of year, they're doing great. In spring they die back but grow with the monsoons. When using them, I dig out the clump, cut the tops off an inch above the roots and replant that 6 inches apart. 5-foot-tall chicken: You've ben reading the Egg and I, again... Pigs, I know...Sigh, and here I am eating homemade pastrami for supper. But, I now have 2 blackberry plants. A lot more did not survive summer even with wind protection. Lori, any comments from the turkey? Tastes sweet? Like chicken? hasta and niio
@EdgeofNowhereFarm Жыл бұрын
We've been really pleased with those onions. Took some time to come up after letting them dry almost completely over the summer, but they've all come up now. A lot of folks wanting us to ship those, so we wanted to see if we could get them to keep over the summer and eventually ship them to folks in the Fall. Glad those blackberries are hanging in there. Ours are taking off with this wonderful Fall weather!
@tonisee2 Жыл бұрын
You have done great work - the change in 4 years is indeed completely amazing! Congratulations (because of achievement and anniversary)! What are you doing with old pig areas? I also wanted to ask if you have noticed that the amount of water for plants has decreased e.g. in the blackberry bed, which now has a lot of shade and most probably also much richer soil?
@EdgeofNowhereFarm Жыл бұрын
It's come a long way in 4 years, for sure. We're using 2 of the last 3 pig beds so far. Technically all 3 are being used, but last year's is where the Kune's are calling home. The first (2020) is where we have some sugar cane and berries planted and the Thanksgiving turkeys are on the area from 2021. We have seen a lot less stress in the trees when it gets really hot and not losing trees this past Summer was a testament to that as well. We still want them growing aggressively, so we haven't cut back on the water just yet. The hope is that will happen as they become fully mature.
