For getting the finest edge possible I have found reducing the pressure to almost nothing at the last stages on the edge pro improves results enormously, Its less about being high polish and more about having a very accurate angle.

You can see from the microscopy that you're not quite hitting your apex. The scratches in your finish can be removed by using brand new polishing tapes (2000, 3000, and 6000) and sharpening in both directions, both towards and away from the point when you sharpen. If you haven't already done it, I would also recommend installing a drill stop collar on your Edgepro.

Edmond Dantez thank you for the feedback! Since starting the edge pro about two years ago I have since upgraded stones and tapes and hav me much better out come from sharpening. Also got a drill stop, it corrected exactly what you’ve pointed out. Thanks again!

Sounds like you're on the road to perfection. I've been sharpening for 40+ years and decided two years ago to stop doing it for free. I built an angle guide for my belt sander (which worked very well) But then I bought an Edgepro professional. I've got the thing completely tricked out with some aftermarket gizmos and with what I learned from four decades of freehand sharpening I'm now able to create edges that until now, I only dreamed of.

I really enjoy freehand sharpening on stones, but you’re right the edgepro definitely gives you another level of control. Do you do scissors and other implements too?
@MrMZaccone6 жыл бұрын
Yes. I do chisels, woodworking tools, I do stylist shears and charge a premium for them. I recently even did a set of planer blades and got great feedback from the woodworker that brought them to me. The scissor attachment lets you do things to chisels that are ridiculous. Mirror polished, double beveled, etc. Of course that's just silly most of the time but every once in awhile I do one that way just to impress a potential customer. Their mouths just drop open when they can see themselves in the primary bevel like a mirror. Mostly I do kitchen or butchering knives for local businesses but I'm starting to get some business off the net too. What I really love is when someone brings me a knife that they really prize and I turn it into something that makes an even more beautiful work of art. There's even a local antique dealer who has a display case in his shop, with some of my work on his own personal knife collection. Ironically, I think it may have reduced the actual collector's value of some of those knives, but who am I to tell him no, right? With my business card sitting right there with my work? No sir, I'd sharpen the guy's teeth if he asked me to. lol.

Nice! Interesting to see the microscopic view of a factory edge vs polished.

how do you like your 928 proxy? I have one I really like mine it's a reate edc knife
@theedgeinhand75258 жыл бұрын
I like it! It's a very robust knife but not too heavy or big for edc at the office. The clip is very tight though so getting the knife to clip the pocket of your slacks is hard. But at least it won't fall out easily!

The scratches are from contamination of your polishing stone by other grits.
@MrMZaccone6 жыл бұрын
They can also be from small flakes of the knife itself or even just dirt. They key is the same, keeping the stones and the entire process for that matter, scrupulously clean from start to finish.
