One thing I had to do was create an "en" folder and move the Libby sound files into that for the voice sounds to work.

Been using Edgetx for 2 weeks now. The touch screen is awesome. Started out by bricking the radio. Used DFU and edge flasher to recover. Not too sure I want to go back to opentx. I'm a newbie and haven't flown with the radio yet. Hopefully this weekend.

@@llickmogan It being touchscreen is one thing... - the transmitter still wouldn't boot until the underlying board supported was added. The Nirvana will be supported alongside all the other transmitters supported by EdgeTX, meaning it will get all the fixes and features that come to all of the transmitters, and will also be supported in Companion in the future. No need to run the that odd version of opentx anymore ;)

From EdgeTX FAQ: - EdgeTX does not yet have an official release for the Flysky Nirvana NV14. However, we are actively working to fully support it. Seems NV14 for both OpenTX and EdgeTX will still come in "next year" :D

Not quite... firmware for the Nirvana is already in the nightly builds, and will be included in the late September release :-P It probably won't be fully functional, and the UI/UX will need work, due to the vertical screen orientation, and lack of buttons, but it certainly boots.

Yeah, once you've had a taste of what basic touch screen support is like, there's no going back. so much easier being able to interact with the screen rather than having to keep moving around the screen using the buttons. And once Lua apps start using the touch screen support as well... well, need I say more? 😂 In the future, there will also be a onscreen keyboard and number pad, so that will make naming things and entering numbers a lot easier also.

Thanks for mentioning the Nirvana. I have two and still use them. It's sad to see it not fully supported even though it's hardware is still high end. Edit: Nirvana is NOT on the firmware list. :(

It's not in the list for 2.4, but it most certainly will have basic functionality in 2.5, which is scheduled for late September. There is already support of it in the main branch, and work is progressing on fixing bugs and making it usable. If you want to give it a try, and see where it's at, you can give it a try by downloading one of the nightly builds => github.com/EdgeTX/edgetx/releases/tag/nightly and flashing it via the bootloader (or if you can't do that, via DFU mode using Flasher or OTX Companion). As FPVKnowItAll said, backup your SD card first ;)

Tried the edge upgrade and bricked the radio. It seems as dfu was write protected. Used STM32cube programmer to unlock and install edge. IT WORKED.

helloooo.... hope you see this whenever you plugged in the USB into the Radio, it asked if you wanted to use it as a joystick or access the storage Mine doesn't do that are there some settings that need to be adjusted? EDIT: Found it for those wondering as well, it is a setting Sys -> Radio Setup (the cog) -> third from the bottom "USB Mode" set this to "ask"

Rather than "backup your sd card" you should just use another one and keep opentx as-is. Also it seems like you maybe could have given a bit more warning that it is experimental firmware and should not be used on your $10k model. Also, you should know that it is more difficult to use build flags such as "externalaccessmod or bluetooth"

Linear polarisation is essentially transmitting the signal in one “plane” whereas circular polarised antennae are transmitted in 3 dimensions, if that makes sense?

I believe the main reason is that the control links we use (FrSky/Crossfire/Tracer/Ghost/etc) only need to send very small amounts of data, and are able to do a bunch of “frequency hopping” within the 2.4G (or 900mHz) band to ensure the signal stays strong. Video, on the other hand, requires sending a lot more data, and thus it’s hard to keep all the signals separate when there are multiple pilots in the air. Circular polarization can help avoid video signals interfering with one another (if adjacent channels alternate L / R) and also offers better multi-path rejection when flying indoors and such. Said another way: you can have dozens of pilots in the air simultaneously running 2.4G control links without much of an issue. But we max out around 6-8 simultaneous 5.8G video transmitters in the air at the same time. This translates to a greater need for separation of video signals vs control links. Perhaps there are other reasons as well?

Edge is working on it. Most things work fine on the Nirvana now though, if you use the Flysky firmware. There were people updating it.

@@terrorbirbfpv4732 oh OK, the EdgeTX Web site does not list the Nirvana in the list of supported radios. I still use the original UFPV custom firmware, but I would love to get a IRC Ghost working on it in Ghost protacol, which I believe the Flysky firmware does not support yet.

Haven't finished this video yet, but unless it brings a lot more than touchscreen, I'll wait too. I like touchscreen on a lot of devices, but not sure how it adds much to my daily use of the tx. And I can see possible disadvantages having it in misty or cold weather. I hope there is at least an option to enable/disable.

Yes. The heartbeat sync fix is completely integrated. I mean, even OpenTX has a release with the heartbeat sync bug fixed, so the EdgeTX devs would have had to actively remove it.

hey New to RC Want to get into small planes, Egliders and move to DLG. I have watched about 200 videos , BIG issue for newbies is WHAT radio to get. I am leaning towards Frisky Tandem with the assumption to get the right radio with everything so I can grow into it. There is so much confusion with what radio brand and why. Receivers, updates, not binding ACCESS , new receivers, firmware updates, etc. I am worried I will buy the wrong stuff and this is a serious hobby... I think people want to commit if they could understand more. I ask all in the hobby to share more of the general knowledge in a framework. Honestly Why doesn't the receiver companies do this so people can get informed. Hope someone reads this.. thanks Could someone make a video series so more people can jump into the hobby. Its seems more like a life style. Need help! BTW Love the channel

I just got the Radiomaster t16s and it's on Optx 2.3.11 firmware and when trying your steps to prepare SD card I get fetching index erasing card for 30 minutes and does nothing. I'm using ad card reader and also tried through radio and it does same thing. What's the issue

Inter-rest-ting, really the only thing I could do with on my T16 is one of the switch outputs permanently inversed. Which one? The switch I designated for OSD on/off, because presently if I power up a quad without the TX turned on, the OSD is off. I bet it can be done in OpenTX easily, I just haven't investigated yet :)

That's bootloader not DFU mode. If you can't flash in DFU mode messed up STM32 drivers are the most common cause.

Still use a Nirvana ( It was given to me free when they came out ) I have other radios. But for some reason it's my favourite. Get my radio updates from the flysky updater and must say I haven't missed openTX companion one bit. Nice to see new development as openTX is looking a bit old in the tooth and have been playing it safe for to long.

Well, we had to start *somewhere*. UI/UX improvements will start showing in 2.5 and 2.6 (September / December) releases. For the moment, touch screen support, 500hz ELRS, Onebit and a new voice pack will have to do (in addition to all the unseen underlying code changes)... as well as commitment to a faster release cycle.

If the radio says wlecome to opentx then the sd card contents didn't update. But I don't see any reason that would prevent you from binding.

Impulse rc does nothing. It just looks for the flight controller even though the transmitter is plugged. You said it would just think the transmitter is a flight controller but it does nothing. Just in case the transmitter is plugged in and turned on. I also have it in bootloader mode.

If ImpulseRC driver fixer does not find your "flight controller" it means there is no DFU device plugged in to the computer. You said the transmitter is plugged in and turned on. That means it's not in DFU mode. DFU mode is not the same as bootloader mode (trim switches pressed inward then power on). That is why ImpulseRC driver fixer is not finding your controller. I said in the video, plug in the controller with power off. That's how to put the controller into DFU mode.

@@JoshuaBardwell I see said the blind, deaf, nearly 50y/o RC pilot, who is new to any transmitter with Open TX, who has only owned Futaba, bought a Radiomaster TX16s Max solely to use Happymodel Express LRS 2.4 long distance transmitter for FPV, and not sure I am going to move away from my T18SZ as I like the feel so much better than the TX16s.
