If you need to melt chocolate, put water in a large electric frying pan, put the bowl of chocolate into the water, the warm the owl over medium heat. Takes time, but my grandmother does it.

I've never heard it pronounced "crahns" before, but then, I'm from New England =) The chocolate cup thing might work better with two cups, one slightly smaller than the other. You put the chocolate in and swirl it around, as you did, but then add the second cup inside, forcing the chocolate to stay consistent instead of following the law of gravity. The smaller cup might even need a slight weight inside if it starts to rise. Tips for melting chocolate (my mom used to have a little chocolate company): 1) make sure everything--your bowl, spoon/spatula, etc.--is bone dry. Any water will turn your chocolate into an unworkable mess. 2) Melt in the microwave small increments (60 sec, 30 sec, 30 sec. etc.) and stir between each time, even if it seems silly. If you go too long, it'll burn and get ruined. 3) Be especially careful with white chocolate. (This includes anything colored--it's really just white chocolate with color.) It burns easily. Bonus fun fact: white chocolate isn't actually chocolate =)
