I had to break these in to open up the high mids up a little, and after a few weeks things rounded out. These speakers are super flat down to about 120-150. They are pretty directional as well. I added a 12 and I was able to get a great, and full sound. They dont feel that pushed and I think the wood makes the response nice and tight. I think they are flat and not tuned for loudness, so that might throw some people off, but you probably wont forget your old altecs, however, these are VERY satisfying.

hi, people say these have recessed mids compared to the r1700bt, will break in fix the mids issue entirely?

@@loonation2185 I can't speak to testing a batch of them. I only have one pair. The two way design is generally mid rich any way, so that's something you'll have to determine in your room.

@@OK-Computer Using a spectrum analyzer and correcting for your room is the only way to hear the speaker properly. Hello Dale, thank you for the review. Of all the reviews I saw, I liked yours the most, so thank you for your time and your help. I saw a handful of reviews of this model and the MR4, I bought both, the MR4 are for my small apartment (these will be connected to my PC and will replace an old Logitech which has a connector defect already) and the R1700BT will be gifted to a dear friend of mine which lives in a way bigger place than mine, so I hope these are good enough in that environment. She mostly would use the Bluetooth connection and I am always connected via cable to my PC. I paid 140 USD approx for the MR4 (around 2,800 MXN) and 125 USD approx for the R1700BT (around 2,500 MXN). Have you tried the MR4 already? Would love to hear your input about that model if possible. I liked the video and subbed to your channel. Greetings from México, Dale!

I'm torned between these and R1280dbs. Based on what I heard from the comparison videos here on KZbin, 1700 sounds like it has a V-shape sound sig, with the mids a bit recessed. I like the mids on the 1280db/dbs though, it sounds more balanced. But sometimes 1700 sounds clearer and has more crisp 😅

@sidsreviews11103 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark. They won’t distort that’s not my concern. And they will play loud enough too. My concern is when played at loud volume, 80db and up, the top treble may seem sharp or a little bright to you. @@AbsoluteFidelity With such dimensions, another better sounding, more discrete and powerful option in my view, is a pair of Taga Harmony TAV-606S V.3 or 806S, Magnat Monitor Supreme 202 or Dynavox RLS-40. Add a bluetooth FX Audio DTA2.1BT2 or an SMSL SA300 integrated amp. Throw another 20-30 for cables, from more than decent and reasonably priced brands, like Oelhbach, Dali, Supra, Norstone, QED, Clicktronic etc and you'll be much better off for an extra 40-50 euros more. Listening to a rock track, it sounded like the Hi-hat was place front and center of the stage. I eq'ed the hell out of it just to try to tame the high end but to very modest effect. Overall, to be honest I am kind of disappointed in the sound signature of these speakers. That said, I bought them primarily for my HTPC and for movies so far they're great.
