I’m editing a Lakenheath F15 Strike Eagle from start to finish in Lightroom and Photoshop, doing my standard edit with denoise and sharpening. I also print the image on my Epson ET 8550 using Fotospeed PF Lustre 275 paper.

Here’s another video I made about printing which goes into a bit more detail: How to Print Your Own Photos with Your Own Printer and Get Great Results kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqSloX6XZ8xmsJY

Thank you for being clear with what you’re actually doing to activate adjustments. So many times I’ve gotten frustrated when people whiz through the keyboard without explaining exactly what they are hitting and why. For now, I need to people to talk to me like I’m 5 and explain every key stroke. This was quite informative and makes sense!

Great video, thanks for posting. One thing I find helps is rather than select the sky, select the subject and then invert it, with an image like this I find it gives better results.

Great tip, you’re absolutely right, one way or the other often gives better results so try both!

Make an import preset to apply lens corrections on the raw, denoise an then apply all other edits on the dng file. It’s a better approach. Generally speaking ISO 400 produce very low noise to bother, save some time and disk space.

Great video Stuart! The last time I saw an LN bird was Red Flag 2017. I always am intrigued by how others edit their work. Thanks for sharing your insight! Cheers from San Francisco!

Another excellent video showing editing at just the right pace to follow without having to keep pausing and going back A couple of questions if I may : Have you tried LR profiles yet ? Ive found them a useful starting point for editing and often gives an idea of where I want an edit to go I noticed you didnt do any further editing after soft proofing. Was this because of limited changes because of the nature of the image i e grey aircraft on a blue sky or is this something you don't need ? Keep up the good work

Hi Andrew, thanks for your kind words! Yes, I sometimes use profiles - generally I’ll do that if I want to take the photo in an artistic direction rather than give it a realistic feel. But I only think of a profile as being a starting point, not a do-all solution. I didn’t need to make any soft proofing adjustments on this image which is actually quite rare, I usually do some adjustments. Quite convenient for this video which was getting a bit long! I have other printing videos on my channel if you want to learn more about this!

Hi Stuart, great content, I find your aviation videos very helpful and insightful !! I do have a question regarding your export options, would you be able to go over what settings you use in exporting your images to either just save them for yourself or save for social media ?
@sturousephoto
@sturousephoto Жыл бұрын
Hi Joe, thanks for your comment. I’ll be making a video about Lightroom import/export/organisation very soon, so be sure to,look out for that! But in the meantime, I simply export a full resolution jpg back into my Lightroom catalogue for my own archiving, which in turn gets backed up multiple times. If I want to export for social media, I usually just let the app resize it rather than doing it myself, unless I add a watermark. See more in the video coming soon!

Great shot with new lens. Assuming that was with 2xTC right? I actually have my first show of year tomorrow and its the only one around here with Eagles in them. Might be last one too as they are being replaced at this base with F-35's soon. I will have to remember the WB trick you did. I don't often touch that for aviation photos. One idea that you might want to try for masking sky is first choose mask subject then reverse it. I find it does a better job with aviation photos. Not sure if you will find the same or not. Really enjoying your channel so please keep up the great work.

Thanks for your comment, much appreciated. Yes it was shot with the new lens but actually this one was without the 2x TC whilst I was testing it. Sometimes I mask the sky or sometimes the subject and inverse it, depends on the shot, one usually works better than the other. How did your airshow go?

Can you do the same level/type of sharpening in Lightroom, or does Adobe sharpening work differently?

Great video and very informative. Would you say the process of flattening the file using shadows and highlights before further editing is a good starting point for all photos or just for the aviation pics? Wondering if it would be useful as a starting point for wildlife photos.
@sturousephoto
@sturousephoto Жыл бұрын
Good question Steve - I would suggest that boosting the shadows and reducing the highlights is a good starting point for birds in flight, just as it is with aircraft. I do this to try to balance the exposure of the subject and sky to reduce the silhouette effect against a bright sky. You could try it, but if your wildlife subject is against anything darker like a tree or foliage then the exposure would be more balanced anyway so almost certainly no need to go to such extreme highlight and shadow slider movements. Thanks for the comment/question 👍🏻

@@sturousephoto Thanks for the quick answer Stuart. Yes that makes sense. A lot of my recent stuff that needs editing is not against the sky but if it is I can use this method. I might start using high pass again too. Used it years ago but not recently.

Are you talking about the DeNoise part of Lightroom or the Topaz DeNoise AI plugin?? If you mean the DeNoise part of Lightroom then is yours up to date? Are you running the latest version of Lightroom Classic?

@@sturousephoto Yes, I am talking about denoise in lightroom, I do not know if I am running the latest version, How can I check that?
@sturousephoto

It should tell you the version when you launch it on the startup splash screen or in the About menu. I think you need the April 2023 release or later, which I think is 6.3.
