Not only did Abbe Faria gift Edmond with knowledge and companionship during their time as friends, but he also gave him the means to escape with his death, and the means to get revenge on his enemies.

@@link27823 it is so very different than the book but I do absolutely love it. More concise and streamlined plus it is nice to see poor Mercedes have a happy ending versus the book which is so depressing

Like he wouldn't know who Abbé Faria is. He asked if he had a map, so he knows he was suspected of knowing where the treasure of Monte Sparta was.

The script is very superficial, it didn't portray the bitterness well and the protagonist feels like it happens with Underground Man in Notes from Underground by Dostoevsky who went through unpleasant experiences and became someone bitter. His suffering and hatred are so superficial in the film

Same here. This is my favorite version. I liked the book but it was a bit depressing at the end. I enjoyed the cheerful ending here.

2:18 one of the most evil laughs I've ever heard. Clearly this man has tortured all the prisoners so he is definitely evil.

Yea. Funny thing is that on the surface he comes off as deadpan and bored, but inside he's a sadistic monster.

@@astrangerhere Yes, when he first met Edmond, the Warden appeared sad and even sympathetic. Then, the longer he talked the clearer it beca,e it was all a ruse and that the Warden was merely toying with him.

I think decades of being warden of the worst prisons in France, would drive me coo-coo too. Especially if I was already fucked up to begin with 😄

They wouldn't have wrapped chains around his legs and used a lock. They would have sewn stones into to the body bag. Much cheaper.

@@alexanderesposito5672 If i remember correctly they did use an Iron Ball, but it was only fastened to the ankles with a rope hence there was no reason for Dantes to take the key , from the warden, since he could just cut the rope with his knife. In the book they also do not realize that Dantes is gone until a few hours later.

This prison break actually doesn't work in real life. If a human body falls onto water from a height of 50 meters, it is equivalent to falling onto concrete. Dante would instantly die from impact without a chance to swim away.

Canadian iron worker fell from a bridge into the Detroit river and survived. He was rescued, didn't drown anyone andswim away though.

I know it's for tension and all, but if he had time to move a body through a small tunnel, why wouldn't he put his plate in front of the door and cover his hole back up, itd buy him another 12 hours at least untill suspicion started

In the book it was hours before the switch was discovered and he had plenty of time to get away. Had it happened this way it's almost certain Dantes would have been recaptured.

The funny part is this shows how digging the tunnel was completely unnecessary. When they didn't put the plates at the door, both times the guy opened the door seconds later. Edmont and the priest were both trained so they could've easily taken him out once the door was opened and he came in to investigate. There are no other guards there, so after they took the other guys out they would've been free.

Most people can't last that long in the water while unlocking the padlocks. Until now this scene still makes me cringe.

He’s been working out for years (fencing and digging). He can last several for several minutes so the length of time is not unbelievable. What I find unbelievable is him holding his breath and staying focused after that kind of fall into freezing water.

In the book they just sewed him in a burlap bag and since he took a knife with him he simply cut the cheap threads they used to sew the bag, Keep in mind it was not sewed tightly as they figured once it hit the water the fish would get to his body so the weights was not tied to him but just put in the bag.

The Chateau D'If. It was a real place, a fortress turned prison located on the island of If, the smallest island in the Frioul archipelago situated in the Mediterranean Sea about 1.5 kilometres (7⁄8 mile) offshore in the Bay of Marseille in southeastern France. The movie though had the prison located much more remotely

This is the bad version of 2002, it is the worst version of the book. The script is very superficial, it didn't portray the bitterness well and the protagonist feels like it happens with Underground Man in Notes from Underground by Dostoevsky who went through unpleasant experiences and became someone bitter. His suffering and hatred are so superficial in the film You should watch the 1979 and 1988 version on KZbin.

They put a lock on the chain to keep it tight on the body so it doesn't slip off

The lock kept the cannonball weight attached, so the body would sink and not drift on the waves.

I guess any other way instead of a lock would have made it impossible for him to escape, so the lock was needed to keep the story going

@@anthonydefex777 in the book Dantes just cut himself out of the sack. And the governor wasnt even there to see the body thrown over. Dantes was thrown in without grabbing anyone.
