Yeah, but those are not feathers. Feathers are a lot complicated, so they are primarily found in birds, overaptor, and dromeosaurs. Other furrie stuff found in dinosaurs are less complicated then feathers so they just filaments They look like quills that you would see in other theropod and other ornithischian. Feathers can't coexist on top of scales as feathers is a form of scale and what would be underneath would be skin. So yes the dinosaur he drew is 100% scaly, and filaments is just a optional thing to draw.

@@ultranecromos9915 They are probably stage 1 feathers, that are just single hair-like filaments. Also I am pretty sure feathers and scales can coexist, with the feathers in-between the scales. You seem to be mistaken.

@user-H_m feathers are a complex structure of scales, you can't have them on top of scales, and what's under feathers would be bear skin. It isn't possible for an animal to have two of the same filaments on top of eachother. It wouldn't work.

CORRECTIONS: Stan is being located to a museum in the UAE. T. rex may have had scutes since concavenator had them. I drew the arms a bit too small. The artwork at 0:43 is by Christopher Snrka.

Actually there is evidence for bird like scutes on the feet of theropod, primarily from the genus Concavenator.

Bloody Mary, a young tyrannosaurid at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science has bird-like scutes preserved on its foot. Literally no reason to suggest that they were absent in theropods.

Dang! Great vid bro, going in to the research is hella entertaining, it also gives a great insight to people who just start their art journey. I cought a few things though, tarsal scutes are indeed present on tyrannosaurs! Tyrannosaurid from Montana dueling dinosaurs has them preserved. Another thing is teeth slippage, in tyrannosaurs it isn't really a thing, their teeth are so tightly packed in the sockets, with new teeth inserting right in to the grooves in the root of the previous tooth. Lighter part of the chompers where enamel ends might suggest some intense gum line. To conclude, keep up the good work bro cuz it fine af!

It's not known if other dinosaurs had scutes or not. It depends on when they evolved. It is possible they evolved early on, but it's also been suggested that the scutes might have evolved from wing feathers on the leg, which is something only maniraptorans had. To be honest, it would explain a long standing question of mine. That is, why were leg wings so common in flying dinosaurs, yet totally absent in birds? It would make sense, if they converted their second pair of wings into scutes. But the truth is we really don't know. It's up to the artist to decide what makes sense. EDIT: Apparently concavenator did have scutes, both on the feet and tail, but it's unknown if it evolved from a common ancestor between it and birds, or if it's convergent evolution. Interestingly it also has extremely controversial knobs on its arms that many believe to be quill knobs, and many do not. Which is odd because pennaceous feathers are so complex they're unlikely to evolve twice, so if they are quill knobs, pennaceous feathers either evolved a lot earlier than we thought, or concavenator beat the odds and independently evolved a similar feature to birds. Given that one of the hypotheses for scute evolution is that they evolved from wing feathers on the legs, the scutes on concavenator are potential evidence that it may actually have quills.

@@catpoke9557 thank you! that's super interesting, I'll have to find the papers about conc then. concavenator is so damn weird lol so basically maniraptorans did have leg feathers, but those eventually became scutes in aves? hence why larger theropods wouldn't have them since they had no feathers in the first place however, conc does kind of throw a wrench into hat since it. did have scutes! and it was a (basal) carcharadontosaurid. hmm

@@gordonfreemee3660 Yup! Concavenator throws a wrench into the hypothesis that avian scutes evolved from their leg's wing feathers. But then again, like you said... Concavenator was WEIRD. It is possible it evolved the scutes totally separately. For now, though, I just stick with the assumption that scutes evolved from more basal feathers than we think.

So, I accidentally found out while replying to another comment that concavenator has scutes on its feet. Since both birds and concavenator have them, I think it would make most sense to assume T. rex had them, especially since the reasoning against them was that they evolved from feathers. It is clear that either they are feathers from an earlier ancestor than we usually think, or that they can and are easily evolved to the point it happened at least twice. Of course it's not a necessary artistic choice, just one I think sounds a bit more logical. When we don't have physical evidence of how an animal looked, we look to its relatives. The two theropods we have skin impressions of in that specific area have scutes, so scutes have good odds of being on other theropods too.

Feathers on more derived Tyrannosauroids are plausible, but there is no direct evidence that they had them.temperature than mammalian fur, birds don't have much trouble regulating temperature, so birds don't change their feather coat much with varying temperatures, the Yutyrannus in an environment that was A degree colder than the T-rex, being a temperate environment, where there were many warm zone animals, it is not impossible then that Tyrannosaurus had a very large coat of feathers on the body.opro like some Paleoarts show. His skin marks could then be from regions without feathers, either because it didn't grow there, or he lost his feathers during an accident, they fell out or were pulled out by another animal, or there were waves covering that skin, and it did not preserve it, it is common in some geological formations where the rex is found, there are animals that should have a coating, such as birds and pewue small mammals, but without the fur or feather marks, just skin, this happens in other formations as well. Tyrannosaurus scales may be vestiges of what were once complete scales, since apparently they weren't functional, looking more like the skin of a bird when it's not feathered, or a lizard without scales, then either those rex skin marks weren't scales,or they were non-functional scales.

I genuinely had to explain to someone, using horses as an example, that just because many hadrosaurs didn't have- as this person put it- 'weapons,' doesn't mean they were defenseless. They still insisted, even with my examples, that hadrosaurs were purely sprinters... Despite the fact that edmontosaurus would have zero reason to become so massive if its main defense was sprinting... All it'd achieve is making it both slower AND more appealing to T. rex! It would be like representing hippos as sprinters because they don't have horns

Good drawing but I have a few nit picks. The legs seem too thin to me, the arms are too small and the lips too large. Since reptiles don't have face muscles that means that dinosaurs too wouldn't be able to move those lips. So if they were that big they'd get in the way if the animal bit down.

The arms are too small, however I based the larger lips on Mark Witton’s reconstruction he used for the new lip paper with the loose lepidosaur like lips. Also I do know that the lips would’ve been immovable.

I did say that, I said there was a possibility of another species turning up but we don’t have the evidence for that. It’s unlikely Tyrannosaurus was a monotypic genus while being the only large tyrannosaur on the continent for so long. But again there’s no evidence and that was purely my opinion.

The arms are too short. If an adult t.rex skull is about 5 feet long, and the arms about 3 feet long, then the arms are about 2/3 the length of the skull. No matter what the age is. Your drawing, the arms are less than half the skull length.

@@ichthyovenator3351 Read about Trex in books and Wikipedia, which all give descriptions on the skeletal structure of the animal. All talk about a full adult having a skull 5 feet long and when discussing the arms, they were 3 foot, 2 finger arms. So, skull 5 feet, arms 3 feet in length.
