I like the looks and the ride quality but the performance is underwhelming and for that price of buying the Blazer you could get the Lyriq with better performance and same or better ride quality plus better interior. Kinda DOA if that's the case and performance is a important metric with Evs even if you just want to cruise most days but somedays you just want to get where your going asap.

No. Chevy is their VALUE brand… where is the value? Now if it was fully loaded with the same Lyric performance for 10-15G less, then it makes sense. The Tesla is like a dystopian nightmare devoid of any dreams or personality. The Hyundai is the clear winner and the better car.

the ONE thing that i like about tesla above all the other car makers is that you can use the cameras as a security system standard in the car... The theft challenge on Hyundai and Kia cars is on those with actual "put the key in the ignition" ICE cars where the steering column is easily compromised and the ignition switch is then manually engaged. Just the same I spent $18 for The Club on Amazon for my Niro EV. I'm not willing to spend thousands extra for a Tesla even with the cameras as standard.

@@kng128 i understand that but you are missing the bigger context. They now have that stigma regardless of what kind kia or hyundai. You really think someone who breaks into your kia or hyundai is really going to know that beforehand or even care? The damage will be done even if they cant steal the car. Then you pay your "couple thousand" fixing your car that potentially keeps being broken in to in the back end with no evidence to potentially capture them doing it. That's like saying you have. yup - they chose the 12k for FSD package which is silly. Any normal person would have just bought a Model Y Performance. But then anything and everything else in the video would have gotten destroyed performance wise. The fact a performance Y with a tow hitch is cheaper than a mid range missing 1/2 the features Blazer EV is a pretty bad look for GM. Yeah, you could clearly see they wanted to "even the playing field" and he therefore tacked on FSD Beta to the price of the Tesla. I bought my MYLR last month. $48K, not the $60K he quoted. Along those same lines, my wife, ironically, picked up a Lyriq over the summer. $62K? Hahahahaha. We got the Luxury 1 version (the better version isn't even out yet, for whatever odd reason). Dealers aren't selling these cars at MSRP, so you'll NEVER get them at that price. I tried convincing my wife to just get a Tesla so that we don't have to deal with market adjustments, but she hates Elon, so she settled on the Lyriq. We fought our asses off and "only" paid $4k over MSRP. I've seen stories of people paying $15K over MSRP for the Ioniq 5. Finding a dealer willing to sell it to you at MSRP is like finding the Yeti!

You should have definitely listed the prices of the compared cars. $42,500 Tesla Y LR with autopilot, after FED incentive. $53,250 Chevy(If it qualifies for the entire 7500), $56K Hyundai that doesn't qualify for incentives. 🤔OS Ionic really worth $13K premium over Tesla? I certainly don't think so. By the way, I run Android Auto in my Tesla with no issues using Teslaa app by using my phone's Wifi hotspot and don't pay for Premium connectivity. Chevy will require a data plan to use its Google connectivity, so I was told when reviewing Blazer EV. Sure, it is highly overpriced! I agree that it makes sense to get Lyriq instead. My initial Blazer EV reservation mentioned $53K starting price and it starts at $57K now, and the add-on package is ridiculous - adaptive CC and safety features should definitely be standard.

Range is a bit of a red herring in that over 80% of EV owners charge at home. It matters more on road trips, but even the modest 150 mile range in the Nissan Leaf is more than enough for daily commuting and running around town. Clearly more range is better, but remember that most people plug-in at home and wake up to a full tank.
@davidmenasco5743

What was really missing was any mention of charging speed. Charging speed and efficiency make a bigger difference than range if you take a long road trip. See Bjørn Nyland's 1,000 km Challenge videos to see how it works. In each video there's a table shown just after the trip is finished, it's a small excerpt of his full spreadsheet. The road trip champion is Tesla. Ioniq is good too. If Bjørn tested a Blazer, it would finish more than an hour behind the Model Y, most likely - if the performance of the Lyriq is any indication. It has a big battery and mediocre charging.

Well, you at least metioned that the Model Y is "Thousands less" if you don't get the (very optimistically named) FSD - but you didn't say just how many thousands less. FSD is insanely expensive - $12,000. Skip that option, and the Model Y is ~$50,000 (including delivery but not tax.) And if you also opt for the standard 19" wheels, you get better range, and a modestly better ride. This review also compared a 2021 Y to the Balzer. The 2023 Model Y has a much improved ride (still firm, but not nearly so jiggly as before) and notably better sound isolation and general build quality. Buyers have voted with their wallets - for sensible reasons. The model Y sells 10-20 times the volume of any of its nominal competitors. Cheaper by far, rock solid software, and of course (for now) exclusive use of the Supercharger network.

So to make the Tesla look bad for this review, they included the price of FSD Beta. Why? * My wife picked up a Lyriq over the summer. I'd say we pulled off a minor miracle to "ONLY" pay $4K over MSRP. I've seen many, MANY stories of people paying up to $15K over MSRP for the Ioniq 5. * There's no federal tax credit for the Ioniq 5. He seemed intent on jacking up the price of the MYLR and also intent on not mentioning the lack of a tax credit. When I get my $7,500 back in a few months, along with my state credit, basically I'll have paid $40K. * Other manufacturers will only get access to a fraction of Tesla's supercharger network, not all of them. I respect the boldness to ditch Apple CarPlay, but GM will need to back that up with OTA updates and not leave customers abandoned with bugs. Let’s see how they do. They just don’t understand the software mindset.

Both the Volt and Bolt I owned were promised and capable of OTA updates, in 7 years not a single update was pushed. GM's bean counters saw what BMW was trying and said "hey me too!" They actively removed features customers loved, replaced them with a crappy version that's behind a paywall. This is before the double dipping they will do as the gatekeeper of every byte of data in and out of the car combined with google analytics and voice monitoring to harvest more of that sweet sweet data they crave. I was super excited and had a reservation for a Blazer EV, cancelled it soon as the AA/Carplay lockout was confirmed, the fact it's a stupid high price (before dealer markups) for a mid level car sealed the deal for me. Will enjoy my 22 EUV for the time being and probably get a Model Y couple years down the road. GM doesn't want to sell you a car anymore, they want to sell you a subscription to a car.

The only reason why legacy automakers even mention that there are OTA updates is because they're trying to compete with Tesla. I still remember the days of GM trying to charge us $350 to update the GPS map. This kind of nickel and diming was a major source of income for dealers. My wife bought a Lyriq over the summer, the app has been atrocious since she got it and they haven't fixed it yet. I could say a lot more, but suffice it to say, he didn't give the whole picture in this review.

It's really strange that GM is leaving CarPlay out. There are a lot of iPhones out there in the hands of potential EV customers. The easy integration with CarPlay was one of the criteria near the top of my list when I bought and EV - an Ioniq 5 Limited in December 2022. The 2023 model Ioniq 5 connects flawless to to my iPhone through Bluetooth, but it have doesn't connect wirelessly to CarPlay, which is a mild pain. You have to plug into the main USB port. But the GM an Hyundai don't connect at all, which is a show-stopper. And there's some indication that a software update will give 2023 Ioniq 5's wireless connectivity to CarPal.

Sure, there's additional fee's from Tesla for delivery and whatnot which adds $1550 But it's still just barely over $38K out the door for an SUV crossover that accelerates like a roller coaster and handles corners like a Ford Escort. Oh, it has more storage than the others also. Yes, it's not a Kush ride like that big heavy slow Chevy. Its suspension is MUCH more performance oriented.

Genuine question, what does Edmunds have against Tesla? The Model Y LR is $49k before rebate and you're comparing it to $60k vehicles with no acknowledgement of the fact it's a whopping $11k cheaper. You reference a range test for the Model Y on 21s when the claimed range is based on 19s (and we all know that rim size matters a lot for efficiency) Then you conclude that the ONLY reason to buy the Model Y over the others is the charging network, when actually there are a lot of reasons, some of which you even mentioned in the video - for example it can carry more luggage, costs loads less, better software, efficient etc. Teslas definitely have flaws, but its eyebrow raising that your coverage of them seems so skewed. @djcali001
@djcali001 Жыл бұрын
While I love how informative these reviews are I feel like they leave out a very important piece of the long term value proposition of the cars. Especially EVs. The cost of the connected service subscriptions. Once the initial trial subscriptions run out the monthly cost of maintaining these becomes a significant factor in whether the car is a good value for the money given that on the Chevy the cheapest plan that allows you to remote start your vehicle is $14.99 per month and doesn’t appear to include connected navigation. In an electric vehicle these things aren’t really optional the way they are in an ICE car. To maximize range in an EV you have to pre-condition your cabin while plugged in so remote start is essential. Don’t want to get stuck charging for an hour plus? Make sure to pre-condition that battery. However you’ll need to do that through the built in navigation and not the one you already pay T-Mobile for on that $1,200 iPhone. Could we tie the pre-conditioning into the smartphone subscription you already pay for. Sure, but where’s profit in that? So for that Chevy Blazer EV add a minimum of $30 to $40 a month for the essential connected services. I find it odd that auto journalists never include this when talking about which vehicle is the better value.

The F150 Lighting launch was botched so bad they wasted all those reservations and many of those folks will never buy a Ford brand vehicle because of the experience. It's not exactly the Osborne effect because they didn't have an existing model for consumers to stop buying but jumping the gun on announcement was a disaster.

“The only reason we’d buy a Tesla Model Y” is access to Superchargers”… is when your credibility score ticked all the way down to zero. Other moments? - Including the fussy, expensive FSD to hit a price point when other less expensive options (3rd row, performance, enhanced autopilot, PICK A FEW) would have accomplished the same goal but clearly further put the Tesla ahead as the other cars don’t even offer them. - using a 3-year-old used car (which has seen substantial suspension, ride & noise improvements in the ‘23/‘24 model years) in a comparison against a brand new vehicle (which also, btw, is when all EVs will deliver their absolute maximum range). - Failing to mention both the Hyundai and the Tesla have trim levels available for delivery NOW that are nearly TWENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS LESS than the Chevy… 🤦🏼‍♂️ - failing to mention that despite being older tech, both the Hyundai and Tesla are more efficient, faster charging and more reliable - you know, the things that actually matter when driving for more than a day or two. - Speaking of charging, assuming GM and Hyundai/Kia will get the same charging speed and efficiency at Superchargers WHEN they get access is a big, big leap. They’ll charge, but how fast is not guaranteed. LOOK IT UP EDMUNDS! GOOD moments of helpful information were the luggage & passenger room comparisons and going outside the group to compare a Lyriq. However, this begs the question: if doing a REAL comparison between $60k EV crossovers, why not just include a Lyriq, a Mach E, etc etc? Especially in light of what’s come to pass with the Blazer’s OS, you might want to consider editing the description to include a disclaimer: HIGHLIGHTED BY THE FACT YOU CANNOT EVEN BUY ONE - THIS REVIEW LACKS SOME RELEVANCE AND CREDIBILITY And I write this as a reservation holder for both Lyriq and Blazer and a Model Y LR owner 2x over (‘20 & ‘23 with 110k miles behind the wheel). Also love the Hyundai/Kia products, but the EA experience is atrocious and not willing to give away the cargo space and $7500 the Y provides in exchange for them.

Until we see how integration goes for the supercharger network, the model Y standard without all the performance stuff is just too good of a value for us to overlook. We need all that extra space when traveling to grandma’s house a couple times a year and for that road trip to the Grand Canyon. All the other car makers say they will have supercharger access soon, but who knows how clunky a situation might be with an adapter let alone how to find the superchargers without using an app. It looks like with Tesla you just tell it where you want to go and it plans the whole trip for you including how long to stay at every charger And what there is to do nearby. I think this time we will get the model Y, and once all the dust has settled for the new North American charging standard. We might consider something else but I’m just not a fan of adapters. If the car does everything I need to do, without adding extra apps, then I don’t see why I need CarPlay or android auto

Once the new Model Y comes out, you're going to have to do another one of these 😅

Well I had a top trim 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited equivalent, delivered with defective fast DC charging (no fast DC charging), 7 months and 6 service visits later ti was finally repaired, I unloaded it for the much more reliable and easier to find fast DC charging 2023 Model Y Long Range AWD (and have no doubts Telsa can service this EV unlike Hyundai's EV service, and I never looked back! Great road tripper, even towed a Tent Trailer over 1500 miles without a hickup on our holidays!

Tesla still has by far the best charging infrastructure and that's a huge advantage for them. At least for now.

I also have a MYLR and it's worked flawlessly. My wife picked up a Lyriq in July and it's been nothing but headaches. the 1 pedal driving broke literally the first week she got it. They gave her a loaner Lyriq and ITS 1 pedal driving broke while they were trying to fix her 1 pedal driving! They were really nice and basically explained to us there was literally 1 guy taking classes to learn how to fix the thing!!! The app is abysmally slow (basically, it just hangs), and has been like that from the beginning. Translation: GM says they have OTA updates but considering they only started offering them to compete with Tesla, I simply don't trust that they'll deliver consistent, functioning updates. Heck, we've had the Lyriq for 4 months. When are they going to fix the hanging?

@@dontbanmebrodontbanme5403 Funny I gave up on the Lyric and got my $100 deposit back as GM could not give me an updated delivery, kind of glad I went with the Y!

Almost same miles travelled, on a SMALLER BATTERY! Tesla WON. The newest LR battery is even smaller, and does even better. Nice try though. What matters is miles per kWh. Tesla 3.9 Blazer 3.0 Did the Blazer have 85 or 105??? He never says.

Edmunds 5:25 - one cannot report range without reporting the kWh rating for the battery. If an inefficient EV achieves 320mi of range but has a 200kWh battery… that’s a fail. It’ll take 10yrs to charge it. Or just divide range by the kWh size of the pack to derive an efficiency rating per car.

In order for GM to "turn up the heat", they would need to reach scale in production (250k) AND make them profitably. Because this has no real chance of happening before they go bankrupt again, that heat seems more like an A/C unit wafting in the corner.

GM going bankrupt is nothing more than a wet dream of Tesla stans.

What is the L3 DC fast charge rate of each (maximum and with nearly full batteries)? For example, Bolt is 50 kW (slow), and then 15 kW (painfully slow) when battery over 80%.

The ioniq 5 can charge at up to about 250kw, and it's capable of sustaining that speed much longer then the others. It's by far the fastest charging of the 3. It's sibling, the ioniq 6 adds more range per minute than any EV on the market.
