Darth Vader's body actor was played by David Prowse, a 6'6" bodybuilder -- and the voice was done by James Earl Jones of course. So, David Prowse was a very intimidating physical presence on set -- he didn't need a box to stand on. I think you may be one of the first ones to catch how dirty and weathered everything is, kudos to you! By now it's just taken for granted in cinema, but when this came out and we had to watch it again, sure there was the action and adventure and the story, but it was also because we were just staring at every square-inch of the screen, nothing had been shown like that before; the counters, they had crap on them, the floors were scuffed, the clothes were dirty and used and torn, the guns were scuffed up, that land-speeder was beat up and used. No one had presented a fantasy world so lived-in like that.

Star Wars Episode 4; A New Hope was released in theaters in May of 1977. I was 10 years old at that time. The movie was a mega hit worldwide and was ahead of its time in story and FX. The version you are watching is the 1997 extended remastered CGI version. Prior to that, the FX was done with stop motion animation, which was considered the best ever when the movie was first released. It won several Oscars because of it. Back in the day when popular films like Star Wars were in theaters, it was not uncommon for that same exact movie to be re-released again in cinemas the following year. Star Wars was so popular that theaters would be packed year after year. Lines for the film would stretch several blocks long. Even people who had already seen it the first time went back time and time again to watch it. Then, when the sequels came out, it happened all over again. Back in 1997, the remastered CGI extended version of the film was released for the 20th anniversary of the film with extra deleted scenes added, and theaters were packed yet again as if it were 1977 all over again. The place was so full of fans that even though there were many fans like my brother and I who had already see the movie several times in the 1970s, the film still got a standing ovation just the same. It was still that good and well worth the watch. 🎞📽👍💖
@lydiakaraiskou14215 күн бұрын
I once read in a comment that when it was first released children used to compete each other on how many times the watched it. I wasn't born yet, so I thought to ask for your "expert opinion" on the matter.
@LaurinGarcia5 күн бұрын
@lydiakaraiskou1421 The movie was released every summer in theaters until the sequel was released. And then that sequel movie was released every summer as well. So it wasn't uncommon for many fans to go see the same movie every summer year after year. Some did use to go more than once to see it. But you did used to get the naughty kids that would either sneak into the theaters via the exit doors. Or would pay once to see it, then hide behind the seats when the movie was over and watch it all over again. Some movies you didn't have to be sneaky to see again. If you came late and walked in at the end of the showing, then it was OK to see the film again in order to see the complete story. It wasn't like it is nowadays where you have to wait outside for the first showing to finish ending before you can go to your scheduled time for the ticket you paid for. Things changed when cable TV became popular, and they started showing Star Wars. There was no longer a reason to go back to seeing the movie in theaters there (though the theaters still showed it each summer). Not everyone had cable, and there is still nothing like seeing it on a big screen. Now you can repeatedly watch the same film over and over and over again and again on your own TV. And back then, you could. Movies were commonly shown multiple times a week for several months on prime cable channels. Then... VCRs became popular. And box set. And directors cut versions. Again, it is not uncommon to own multiple versions of the same movie simply because it was a special kind that no one had seen before. Yes... my family was guilty of owning those kinds. Yep, we were like, "shut up, and take my money" decades before the phrase became a thing. LOL! 💸😉 🎟🎞📽

"Lukewarm", lol... 21:03 You guys are funny talking about astronomical things. Those were no moons (people will appreciate this one, especially). Those were stars. Moons are bodies that orbit around planets. Planets orbit around stars. Our planet, Earth, has one major moon, "the Moon", and lots of minor natural quasi-moons as well as all of our artificial satellites. But Earth is a small planet. A large planet like Jupiter, which can be seen with the naked eye, has nearly 100 known moons. And all of this around one star. "Sol", or "the sun". Space stuff is fascinating. Like, we know that light travels at about 186,000 miles per second. Per second. Absorb that. Even at that crazy speed it takes about 43 minutes for light to get all the way from Earth to Jupiter. Another way to talk about that distance is this: If you drove a car at a constant speed of 100 miles per hour, it would take you several centuries to get to Jupiter. Between four and six centuries, depending on where Earth and Jupiter were relative to each other. Sometimes they're closer or farther from each other. It would take about three months to get to the moon at that speed, a constant 100mph.

This is probably the most repeated and redundant comment made on every reaction video ever. This happens a lot during reactions, especially with more than one person where discussion is more prevalent. They can't know where all the important dialogue is without having seen it before, expecting them to know when not to talk is completely unrealistic. They also can't just sit there quietly watching the movie; not only would it make for a less interesting reaction, but they can really only use the parts where they are talking on KZbin, which makes it seem more chatty than it probably is, but otherwise they are just silently showing 1/2 the movie without any commentary which copyright doesn't allow you to do.

At first, there was a battle between Star Wars fans and Star Trek fans. I was a Satr Trek fan. But soon each fan base respected the other ones. Dudes, when this came out, we thought the diologue was cheesy and we made fun of how many shots the storm troopers missed. @nicknoga5645 күн бұрын
I don't think that was an accident... what it implies is that Vader speaks mechanically, without the use of his lungs (which were damaged to the point where he could barely use them at all). His voice doesn't depend on him exhaling air through his larynx... it's just generated electronically by moving his lips while his mechanical lungs continue to function.

I am old, and it was different when these came out. All of these characters became pop culture icons and referenc epoints, so it makes sense y'all embryos not only haven't seen the originals but also that you still know so many characters and story beats because Star Wars influenced so much that came after. I would still say you haven't seen the "originals" because the Ep4,5, and got remastered and changed when Lucas did the "Special Edition" trilogy back in the late 90s. It won't make much difference but some of those changes pissed off old heads like me when I was deep in my Star Wars love. I do recommend watching the "De-Specialized" version which you can find out there as they are as close to the original as we can get nowadays but you need to procure them through less than legal means. The opening crawl in the beginning hits different when you are sitting in a theater seat looking up at a big movie screen. makes more sense in that environment. Edit: The actor who was in the Darth Vader suit was a professional body builder and 6'5 iirc. I met him back in the 90s at a con, even in his later years David Prowse was huge.In the suit he is hitting like 6'7" or maybe a little bigger. Just saying, no box needed really, dude was big. The dude who made the "voice" for Wall-E and all the robots in that movie; he is named Ben Burt. He also designed the sounds for most of the Star Wars movies in particular the way R2-D2 "talks". It all comes back to Star Wars y'all. Every big action movie with special effects that came after this was trying to do what George Lucas did in Star Wars. He set the bar. To this day the Special Effects house he created to make this movie and all the ones that came after, Industrial Light and Magic(ILM), is one of teh best effects houses in the world and works on all sort of movies, not just Star Wars content. Just saying, put some respect on their name, because none of the cool stuff we get to watch now would be what it is without ILM. Rebel Moon is like Temu Star Wars. Zack Snyder's take on that type of film but somehow worse and bad. Decent effects though.

1. Sir. Alec Guinness/Obi-Wan didn't want the part. Being a Shakespearian actor, he thought the entire idea was silly and was beneath him, but his wife talked him into taking the part. 2. The shrug Chewy gives Luke after he scares the tiny black droid is 🤣 3. These movies were put out in a certain order because there was limited technology and Lucas used and pushed forward the images needed to make a quality product. The best way to watch the is in the order they came out. We had to wait years for the next one. There was no internet where we had access to them whenever we wanted. 4. No need to go into anything after VI. Disney took over and the quality dropped. I realize you have to. 5. The only CGI was put in for the 25th anniversary package in this film are the critters the stormtroopers were riding at the beginning of the search for the robots, a couple of the huge critters outside the pub, the scene with Jabba the Hutt and other minor changes. Those were put in later after CGI was available. Otherwise, everything is what we had in 1977. 6. Obi-Wan sacrificed himself after he told Vader he would be stronger than ever. He went back into the force. He knows it's Luke's job to take over. 7. The awkwardness in the detention space is because Ford didn't know his lines. It was kept in the movie anyway because it worked. 8. IMVHO the next two are the best of the series. Enjoy 9. RIP James Earl Jones 😇 10. RIP Carrie Fisher😇

Respect how y’all recognize how hard it was to make these effects back then. After you finish the movies, theres a docuseries called Light and Magic that’s about the special effects company George Lucas started to make Star Wars. It’s incredible and makes you realize how big of an impact Star Wars had on the world of entertainment.

You all are watching the updated in the 2000s version where they added images. You can tell the cgi vs the old school modeled and puppet/make up characters. The explosions were changed as well vs the miniatures and practical effects.

Glad to see you guys starting in on Star wars, Buckle in for a fun ride. Now before you get too hard on them for the bad lightsaber on/off effects, bear in mind this was the '70s, we were lucky to get any kind of special effects to begin with 😂❤
@Squirrelmaz3 күн бұрын
The special effects were done with models. There was no green screen back then!!!! George Lucas did remaster the version that you watched and added a few things.

Y’all need to watch Rogue One. It ends where this movie begins. Plus it’s one of the best Star Wars movies, even though it’s different from the others. It was released in 2016 if I remember correctly.
