Mr. Akpata you have to pat yourself on your back because you conducted a very effective campaign despite the crisis that were going on in your own party You were faced with a very tough situation in the mist of two tough opponents APC and the PDP. With regards to vote buying that was reported it is sad that the citizens are the ones that make fool of themselves and truly demonstrate their ignorance of what democracy and loyalty to ones political party mean in an election. Until such a time that a law is in place to sanction political parties that engage in this process, voting buying will never stop in Nigeria. What is bad about it is that it takes place around the polling units where there are security agents. People arrested for vote buying must serve jail time as deterrent and the political parties made to pay huge fine. For the guest, as a lawyer you have your professional integrity to protect and also your ambition to be protected for next time. A perfect election is still decades away in Nigeria because the citizens who have made voting a transaction as described by the guest are part of the problem, you cannot have a buyer without a seller. Mr. Akpata you are a complete gentleman with a focus, therefore you must not allow your party members push you to an extent where you waste your resources in court. I have seen some comments by some politicians talking about mandate being taking from them and citing irregularities about the IREV and Beva used during the election. This complain is not unexpected but it has to be proven beyond reasonable doubt that their use affected the overall outcome of the election. This can also be the expectation about vote buying. Voting buying is a practice you cannot attribute to INEC but the citizens and the political parties. As a lawyer, I truly believe that the guest understand where violations are made that really call for grievances to be filed in court. Stay focus and not be dissuaded by those politicians who do not know when campaign and elections are over with.
