April 24, 2001, inilabas ng Sandiganbayan ang arrest warrant kina Estrada, noo'y San Juan Mayor Jinggoy Estrada, at iba pa, sa mga kasong plunder at graft. Itinanggi ni Estrada ang pagkakasangkot sa mga ibinatong kaso laban sa kanya. Naging mitsa ito ng pagmartsa sa lansangan ng mga tagasuporta ni Erap.
Ngayong araw, 22 taon ang nakalipas, nagdeklara si dating pangulong Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo ng state of rebellion sa National Capital Region, alinsunod sa Proclamation No. 38. Ito ay dahil sa kaguluhang idinulot at mga buhay na kinitil ng mga demonstrasyon.

Also the US, Brazilian rioters did some research about this riot before they conducted their own. Another comparable event the OP forgot to mention was the 🇨🇦 Canadian convoy protest. While it was less violent it was close to this and fueled by far-right politics.
