They asked Ernest Hemingway once if he can write a whole story with only one phrase and he did it. In my eyes, the same just happened with Ed and the line "I wish that heaven had visiting hours." Ed wrote and dedicated this song to his friend and mentor Micheal Gundinski who unexpectedly died in March, a legendary Australian record label founder and music producer, Ed always said he was like a father figure to him. He performed at Michael's state funeral in Melbourne and afterward wrote this song. A beautiful song and tribute to his friend.

We said goodbye to our father last year. My three siblings and I don’t have a day that passes without wishing we could speak to him just for a few moments. To have him suddenly taken from us was horrific. I now have two young nephews and the whole family teaches them about what a warm, loving and generous man their granddad was. We're both coping well with the loss of a parent, just in certain life moments it comes back pretty hard and in my sister's case becoming a mother, really makes her miss her own. It's a gap no-one can really fill, I'm happy she has a very lovely mother in law that lives nearby.

I absolutely love love love Ed Sheerans Visiting Hours it makes me cry as I have so many questions I wish I had asked my mum before she died unexpectedly in 2005. I wish I could visit my mum, dad who died just before my 4th birthday, my twin brother who was stillborn and my sister I was 18 months when she passed. I was nearly with them 2 years ago when I had sepsis, double pneumonia and kidney failure after 3 weeks of being not present first thing I did was play your music when I was conscious. This song hurts so much. I really miss my dad. Whenever I'm in my lowest point, I think that heavens should have a visiting hours. I always remember the times when I can simply talk to him and tell my feelings, stories, and it takes all my worries away. It is so hard, especially I need to shoulder the responsibility after he left.

I feel your pain, it really sucks doesn't it! I lost my Dad 6 years ago when I was pregnant with his first granddaughter. I so wish I could do all the above and he would get to meet his beautiful granddaughters. I now write songs on my channel to try and channel my grief. I would recommend it, it really helps me.
