Wow! 💫 I'm still a newbie but I jumped in & started my astro journey with binos gifted to me of 10x50, then bought 20x80 binos, then bought a sturdy camera tripod for them, then sold the 20x80 binos & reinvested to buy a telescope, a Mak 102 astro fi, couldn't get it aligned, kept the scope & sold the tripod, invested the money towards a SW200p & eq5 mount, slipped a disc & couldn't carry it around & no room in the house to store, sold both then invested in a 130 newt tabletop dob! So now I have it, plus the 102 Mak ota, a heavy duty camera tripod, binos 10x50. I've just bought a used canon 450d dslr. I also invested in a high quality 27mm eyepiece, my most used, it is levels above all the standard supplied eyepieces! I now have £100 left from my sales, I want to invest in a short tube refractor with any kind of decent mount, a challenge for sure! 🤞😄 But watching this I now know it's not crazy at all to want more than 2 telescopes 😁 Btw so sorry for the loss of your cats 😥 we have 6 indoor cats & 4 outdoor ferals that we look after with housing & food.

RE the Unitron - I've heard that sometimes the optics are not great, but never heard of one that is just awful, so it has to be assembled incorrectly. Easy to do. Also easy to fix.

Enjoyed another one of your videos. I am more of a newbie and self taught but use your information all the time. My budgets much lower than many but I picked up a Celeston C8 90's last fall. My first true telescope. It was on Craigslist locally ( I live in your old stopping grounds Champaign il) When I investigate more about the scope prior to purchase ,it was being sold by and instructor of astronomy at Parkland college. After speaking to her husband I could determine they took good care of it. It has early "computer" drive and go to. The drive tracks well enough. I haven't explored the go -to much yet. Learning to find things in the sky on my own.

I have an Orion Skyview Pro 8 inch Reflector on a Skyview Pro equatorial mount and tripod with a True Trac dual axis motor drive and I absolutely love it. It's a great all around rig with an 8 inch parabolic primary mirror, 2 inch Crayford focuser, 1000 mm focal length and an f-ratio of 4.9, it's a light bucket. I wouldn't use anything other than an eq mount. I also have a dual finder scope mount for my 9x40 scope and my red dot finder. I also have a really nice polar alignment scope. I think for the money this is a lot of bang for your buck. Really easy to collimate, I don't use a laser collimator, collimation cap and a bright star! It's just too bad that Orion discontinued this model but I was fortunate enough to purchase a second brand new motor drive just in case this one on my mount fails, but so far so good it still works great, tracks absolutely perfect. I use a cmos color camera for the solar system and a Canon EOS M10 mirrorless camera for deep sky.

Ed, that was a very interesting insight into your telescope collection. I imagine the majority of your KZbin viewers probably have less than 5 telescopes. I myself just have two but, there again I'm a relative newby in astronomy. I must ask have you ever thought of rationalising your collection, for example, you do seem to have a lot of 8" diameter telescopes, at a push you could probably manage with just two, one for visual and the other for astrophotography? I'd welcome your thoughts.

Hello, Mr. Ting; Thank you for all you do, & particularly for sharing your incredible collection. Your "collection" is ASTOUNDING! I would never want that many 'scopes, as Proverbs says; "Give me neither poverty nor riches."-Proverbs 30:8. Seems like too much of a good thing, if you know what I mean. It reminds me of Solomon's women, "700 wives ... and 300 concubines".-1 Kings 11:3. How could he even maintain a relationship w/ each? My guess is you seldom use most of them. I have 2 'scopes & a pair of binoculars, I use the binocs almost daily, weather permitting. My Orion 6" StarBlast is used maybe 2-3 x / month. My 70mm refractor needs a mount so I hardly use it. Altho I have used it to view sun spots, I'm still learning to do that. Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!

Ed, that is impressive. I am following you since a bit, and one thing you are not mentioning/ had a review on was EQ-platforms. Since u r a big fan of Dobsons I was wondering if you r using them / what's your opinion on it / have a review for it? Cheers

Very nice collection ed, I feel less worried about my own collections now. You did fail to mention all the lenses and filters you have I suspect they are equally vast and epic...

Yes, I'd like to see two more videos; one going through Ed's collection of mounts and supports, and another on his optical and imaging accessories.

I reckon Ed has 3 favourite eyepices and a barlow and everything else just happened to come with scopes.

I was beginning to get concerned that I had way too many telescopes for my own good. After watching your excellent video, I can relax. I have some way to go yet !!!

Any chance of a video review of that tasty Takahashi FC-100 grey tube version that you have there? I also have a grey FC-100 incoming (year 1985, but it's got Multi Coated optics (purple coatings), so at some point mine was refigured or lens replacement by Tak (they offered a MC service for FC scopes around 1990 apparently, and also around 1995 Tak offered lens replacement for the cloudy lens issue that many FC pre-1986 non multi-coated lenses have). I'd love so see some pix of your FC-100's lens and cell!

Ed I recently purchased a 1968 Tasco 15TE-5 with all of the parts in mint condition in a beautiful hardwood box. The telescope was apparently unused, ever. Do you have the manual you could send or post? What kind of diagonal adapter to. 996 to 1-¼" eyepieces? It has all the caps (trashcan for the primary and little white cap for the finder) and 120V synchronous clock drive with springy slow motion controls and solar projection screen. It has the Royal Astro circle stamp on the focuser drawtube...

I agree with xxxburke, the part about the cats was very touching. Have you thought of adopting a new group of cats? I could do without my four telescopes, but I could not do without my two cats and my wife. You just can't hug a telescope. Great collection of scopes though.

I have three scopes in my home office, and an 8" Dob downstairs. I find it hard to choose between them. I can't even imagine having this many!

Got to show this to the wife. Can see it now, “See honey, 5 telescopes is not too many.” Recently got my cataract surgery so a renewed interest in hobby astronomy. Unfortunately where I live, south Puget Sound, Washington, having a telescope is sort of like having a boat in the middle of the sahara. Three of the five were purchased in the last 8 months. A Orion short tube 80 and a little Orion 3 inch reflector reviewed by you a few months ago. You are right, the EQ mount is really bad and will probably be in the corner of the garage forever, I’ve put it on a home made dob that is steady and smooth. The shortage of aftermarket accessories is frustrating, everybody seems to be out of everything.
