My Learning Experience Task 18 Introduction to OET Fall in Love with OET Major Challenges 1. No patience (to analyse & understand) 2. Booking exam dates without preparation 3. Quality v/s Quantity of practice 4. Inability to fall in love with the learning process. 5. Several mentors or no mentoring 6. Misled by social media & marketing strategies. 7. No English culture. 8. Study Groups limited. 9. Aiming Grade - B 10. Attitude: Selfishness v/s Empowering attitude OET [ ] Participants -- Beginners Focus -- Step by Step learning Duration -- 5 months Task -- Daily Requirement -- Daily task completion Assessment -- Weekly (Based on Self Assessment Form) Keep Diary of........ 1. Vocabulary 2. Scale 3. Synonyms-Synonymous - Paraphrasing 4. Comparison - contrast 5. Time expressions 6. Modal verbs 7. Cause & effect 8. Classification -types 9. Adjectives 1. Vocabulary Write down the synonyms /synonymous language/paraphrasing with the context • Fat Overweight 70% of the population is now overweight according to official figures. Extremely fat or overweight. • Obesity Obesity is now a real problem for teenagers. Teenagers who are obese are often bullied at school Eating Disorder A mental illness in which people eat far too little or far too much food and are unhappy with their bodies. Bulimia and anorexia are types of eating disorder. Both are becoming more common. Nutrients Any substance which plants or animals need in order to live and grow. A healthy diet should consist of all the essential nutrients. This meal is very nutritious. Diet The food and drink usually eaten or drunk by a person or group. OR When someone eats less food, or only particular types of food, because they want to become thinner or for medical reasons. It is important to have a healthy diet. People must eat plenty of fruit and vegetables. I've been on a diet now for four weeks, and I've lost about one kilo. Additive A substance which is added to food in order to improve its taste or appearance or to preserve it. This food is full of additives so I'm not going to eat it. Prevent To stop something from happening. Lots of exercise will prevent a heart attack. The prevention of health problems should be encouraged by the government. For example, they could ban the advertising of fast food to children. Allergy A condition that makes a person become ill or develop skin or breathing problems because they have eaten certain foods or been near certain substances. Allergies are becoming more common, and this could be connected to diet. If I eat nuts, I have an allergic reaction. I cannot breath properly. 2. Industrialisation leads to global warming 7. Focus on the structure of the para Topic Sentence Point Supporting Sentence Explanation Developing Sentence Evidence Para/Dialogue Structure 1. Point - Topic sentence - Main Idea/Gist 2. Explanation - Supporting sentence - Explain Main Idea 3. Evidence - Example - Illustrate Main Idea 8. Focus on the Topic Sentence to understand the gist or main idea in the paragraph. Topic Sentence GIST ADHD, the thinking goes, begins in childhood. In fact, in order to be diagnosed with it as an adult, a patient must demonstrate that they had traits of the condition in childhood However, studies from the UK and Brazil, published in JAMA Psychiatry, are fueling questions about the origins and trajectory of ADHD, suggesting not only that it can begin in adulthood, but that there may be two distinct syndromes: adult- onset ADHD and childhood ADHD. They echo earlier research from New Zealand. However, an editorial by Dr Stephen Faraone in JAMA Psychiatry highlights potential flaws in the findings. Among them, underestimating the persistence of ADHD into adulthood and overestimating the prevalence of adult-onset ADHD. In Dr Faraone's words, 'the researchers found a group of people who had sub- threshold ADHD in their youth. There may have been signs that things weren't right, but not enough to go to a doctor. Perhaps these were smart kids with particularly supportive parents or teachers who helped them cope with attention problems. Such intellectual and social scaffolding would help in early life, but when the scaffolding is removed, full ADHD could develop'. OCTOPUSES Topic Sentence You couldn't get an animal that's sort of more different or more alien to us. They've got such a weird shape. They've got eight arms coming off their mouth. When they walk around it's like they're running round on super lips. They've got a head in the middle of their body. They've got a doughnut shaped brain. They've got three hearts, blue blood and jet propulsion, and they've got a bag on the back that they stick all the body bits in. Topic Sentence So octopuses have weird forms, and they have lots of really unusual behaviors as well, like high speeds and camouflaging. I think the reason that octopuses have ended up having such weird forms, and all these different sorts of behaviors is because they are a really good meal. They have no bones, no armour, no poisons and no spines. They're popular prey, so they have to be very fast and clever at squeezing through tiny holes, and really good at hiding from animals that want to eat them. So having to get away from their predators in the sea has made them evolve into amazing creatures. My score task 18 - 8/16 Thank You Father and Admins🙏🏼❤
