Helped pretty nicely, but i still have a question (that probably won't get answered but whatever) A question on my homework is what characteristics separates rabbits and primates from crocodiles. I don't really understand that well. My educated guess is hair, since the red line with hair is set on that branching off line and doesn't hit the other ones.
@Dr.Ian-Plect24 күн бұрын
Well, if the answer is specifically to be found in your homework, then hair is what they are after.

rabbits are not rodents. they are lagomorphs. the screen says "rodents and rabbits" meaning they are two different things, which is accurate. he said "rodents, such as rabbits and mice," implying they are both rodents, but mice are rodents and rabbits are not. :)

So how do you know which is closer related when you compare the tuna to the shark and frog? is the frog more closely related? or how do i know which is more closely related when looking at the ancestry betwen birds and sharks, and tuna and sharks...?
@Pugpono10 жыл бұрын
You have to look at their homologs. The hallmarks of determining homologs are: 1. Same basic structure/pattern (ex. humerus, radius, ulna, etc.) 2. Same embryology (ex. pharyngeal pouches, post-anal tails etc. in embryos) 3. Same relationships to adjacent structures (ex. human hair vs spider hair) 4. Same composition - Chemical makeup (ex. insect leg is an exoskeleton and is made up of keratin, whereas vertebrates have bone (calcium phosphate). They're not compatible) Sharks are cartilaginous, fish are bony, frogs are tetrapods. Each of those characteristics are derived homologs or primitive characteristics depending on your perspective.
