alkali metals have low density.alkali metals are metals which when dissolved in water forms metal hydroxides .these metal hydroxides are alkaline.somr alkali metals are lithium,sodium and potassium.Na+h2O->Na2O+H2.the sodium oxide produced further reacts with water and forms sodium hydroxide.Na2O+H2O->NaOH.hence,we can say that sodium forms sodium hydroxide when dissolved in water.same with other alkali metals.
