I cant believe I have never seen this drill before. This is the single best drill I have ever seen. It's completely fixed my downswing issue of starting with the shoulders turning, which led to an out-to-in swing. Damn this drill is good.

What's with all the haters on this site? Don't know why you're so down on Mike B, but that's no reason to publicly try to humiliate someone. The guy's a legitimate PGA Tour pro and well-respected teacher. Give it a break and go learn how to play golf somewhere else.
@MrA8figureman11 жыл бұрын
wow, why you people hating on this, actually this really works if you understand the swing, those training aids are cheap and they work, he is trying to keep you from being to flat in your back swing with the cone, and trying to keep you from being to upright with the shafts, haney, harmon, foley, all of them use shafts to show feedback, Mark Crossfield with 42,000 subscribers users hula hoops, this guys instructions and swing is dead on, he keep plane the entire time in the swing. great tip.

Looks good u go over the cone and under the 2 sticks and when u come down u also miss the cone and miss the the 2 sticks as close to a one plain swing as u could find also exactly what Mac Ogrady teaches.

Mike, and all teachers for that matter, operate from a premise that there are a series of generally accepted fundamentals that increase the efficiency of learning and effectiveness of results if learned correctly . .... . . One is much more likely to hit the ball solid and straight if he/ or she has learned to keep the swing on plane.

This is why Bender is one of the top teachers...the two shafts on the shoulder plane is great for providing feedback to NOT get disconnected (arms pushing away from body on the backswing)...the orange cone is good but I prefer another shaft/alignment stick stuck in the ground set on the shaft plane at address...it extends further up to ensure you DO NOT get club too far behind your body. You would be doing yourself a great disservice not to try this drill.

Otherwise, underplane or overplane swings recquire additional compensations into impact that are harder to do on a consistent level . . . hence the need for talent and practice.
@bath4golf13 жыл бұрын
@ElGolfeux . . . .You miss Mike's intent of the lesson with your comment. Anyone can perfect the action of any type of swing with enough practice and talent. We could probably generate a large list of golfers that we quite successful with swings that wouldn't fit a "model of fundamentals" - but that is really a result of talent and practice.

How could an inside takeaway hit the cone, but also an over the top downswing? That doesn't make sense to me.

Confusing, in your practice swing your downswing is inside the cone but in your actual swing your on the outside of the cone?

I totally agree with having a feedback station for practicing as long as you know what your trying to accomplish. There are flatter swing patterns that would require a different setup of the feedback station and likewise more upright swing patterns that would setup more vertical. It all depends on which swing model you subscribe to. The thing about this video that is disturbing as others have noted is that what mike describes he is doing and what it looks like on camera is totally different. It sure looks like his club head goes back above the cone and down ABOVE the cone. Is the camera wrong is Mike doing something different than he says he's doing? Maybe a top down view of this drill using the feedback station would shed more light on this.

@raymer1399 Actually I think today's techniques have taken a step backward. I don't think today's techniques to be more precise and\or more powerfull. How come players like Snead were able to be precise and long with the old technologies? Don't forget golf techniques are at a very young age of knowledge, compared to martial arts which are thousands years old. We are bound to make mistakes along the learning way and now, I think we are taking big steps backwards. Ask Bubba what he's thinking abo

I just love the know-nothings who post responses caling a guy like Bender, a proven winner and top teacher, an "idiot." The 12-handicapper theorists who have no idea what they're talking about beyond the words they read on a blog somewhere. Just unbelievable. lovelybueno: Then don't take lessons from a guy like Bender. Take them from some internet expert, or maybe adapt whatever the latest theory in a book. alexvwenz: You're the idiot. Who brings all that crap out to the range, sometimes, is a pro. Or somebody who just wants to get better. I'm betting the man you're calling an idiot has a higher level of accomplishment in this game in his little finger than you have in your entire life. The aptly named Bigtoilet: You have no clue what you're talking about. Iron Byron is not a model that a human can emulate in detail. Mike Austin was awesome, but that doesn't mean he didn't have to compensate for taking it back a little too much inside. The fact is that most players will tend to come over the top if they take it back too far inside, at least partly because when you do that, you run out of room, and the last several feet that the club travels usually will be inclined toward the target line, so that when the change of direction happens, the momentum is going in the wrong direction. I mean, people can believe you, or they can believe pretty much every top teacher since at least the middle of the 20th century, I guess. Henry Kremer: Bubba Watson is the exception, not the rule. If you want to model your swing on Watson's action, feel free, and see how you do.

Starting inside is really bad. Look at Ben Hogan or Sam Snead, without a doubt they would hit the cone, they were quite bad players ;) And starting more up is bad too, ask Fred Couples or Lee Trevino, they would hit that stick everytime, and they are bad too... And why posting this and not answering any of the questions?

I keep watching this and cracking up. RICOLA.....RIDICULOUS!!!!! IN-UP-UNDER-OUT. That's how the club moves! Not OUT then UP. That's called disconnected. Why would I want the club going a different way than how my body is turning? Watch and see how Iron Byron does it. It aint the way he's showing here. Or even better, watch Mike Austin.

I have gone to driving ranges at different courses for 30 years, and I've never seen ANYONE use props like this. You're not going to look like an idiot in front of total strangers, even if it would help. If you really want to shoot a lower score it's simple. Leave the driver at home.
