I go out for eels a few times every spring.. like in may/june.. I catch about 40-50 of them.. put them in a salt bath overnight then warm smoke with some oak wood.. for about 1.5-2 hours.. I do release some small ones and the very big ones also if they are not hooked to deep.

Nice vid Duncan. The more people encouraging the twig or T rig the better. I don’t even bother trying to get a pic anymore - I just video record and take a freeze frame.

I don't understand why the swinger indicator is set up differently to carp fishing? Does it offer less resistence than a light bobbin? Can I use my bobbin indicators in front of the reel as for carp, and put the line in the rod line clip? Also, is the bait just bottom lip hooked? Thanks.
@duncancharmanangling11365 ай бұрын
Basically if using bobbins carp style when you get a bite the fish pulls against the bait runner and causes resistance resulting in dropped runs as oppose to the line flicking of the roll-overs and then the line is allowed to come of the reel without resistance. Fish heads are normally hooked once, lightly through the top or bottom of the mouth, just enough to allow them to be cast whatever distance needed.

where do they tend to be? in the margins or out in the main lake?

I've only ever caught one in a local estate lake around 3-4lb heard of them caught at 6lb in the same lake but there's such a tiny population maybe only 2 or 3 since its the source of a river so not many get up that far

@DjDolHaus863 жыл бұрын
How big of a pond are you talking about and does it have or is it near a natural water source such as a stream? Also what do you mean by can they be caught without rod/line (ie. for what purpose)?

@@DjDolHaus86 30 foot long, 6 feet high, 8 feet wide, yes, it's near a river, I'd like a few in my pond but as I'm not a fisherman I don't have a rod
@DjDolHaus863 жыл бұрын
@@DavidJHarrisonEssex they'll almost certainly find their own way in assuming there are no major obstacles in their way. Eels migrate out of rivers and across land in search of food and a place to live, they'll migrate back to the rivers and out to sea when the call of nature tells them it's time to breed. Fascinating and mysterious creatures, not good pets though, you'll never see them

The twig rig is a superb idea to avoid deep hooking, thanks so much for the tip. Also I love barbless fishing and use it almost exclusively, bu5 I never worked out how to keep a lobworm on a barbless hook,... any ideas anyone?
@qjarman77534 жыл бұрын
alex Griffin thanks, yes I tried hair rigging worms yesterday... seems to be the best way when going barbless 👍
@qjarman77534 жыл бұрын
Dr Joe44 I used “quick stops” which I buy already tied to shop bought hair rigs... so just push the sharp end of the quick stop through the worm with a baiting needle... worked well for me

Nice, next time go to a properly run fishery not one run by utter hypocrites. Makes video using fish baits with special permission. Rest of time fishery bans it. Would give the place a wide berth just for being frankly anti-angling

You realise eels can survive out of water for hours, right? They make there way across land as part of migration and when looking for new food sources
