Why is Screen Space Reflections a setting in the scene tab? I thought every material needs to be defined how much it reflect - eg with a glossy shader. Thx in advance!
@kallehalvarsson58085 жыл бұрын
Screen Space Reflections (SSR) is just a method for calculating reflections. Cycles will do this by simulating the entire path of a ray bouncing off a glossy object, but this is too expensive in real time. Instead, with SSR you use the image you already see on the screen and try to calculate what parts of this image would be reflected by a certain object. You still need to use glossy shaders (or principled with low roughness) on objects for reflections to appear.

The distance parameter in the ambient occlusion submenu indicates how big of a sphere all the probes from one pixel (for ssao) will extend to when detecting nearby surfaces. Increasing this parameter has the effect of extending corner shadows, but not only that, for example if two parallel surfaces are a D distance from each other, setting the distance property for ao lower than D will eliminate the effect caused by them occluding each other.

This is the reason why I render things in blender... I animate and model in C4d and export as alembics to blender and render them there. Super fast for lookdev and beauty shots. Eevee is far from perfect compared to cycles and redshift... but it certainly gets a job done in time. Granted that as long as your director isn't pixelfcking you.

Overall informative video. My only complaint is you should have made it easier for the viewer to know when you are transitioning from one major section to the next. For example, when you were done with the DEPTH OF FIELD discussion you quickly went into the SUBSURFACE discussion as if was the same topic. In other words, you need better "verbal paragraphs" to make it a bit less confusing.
